Change the oil every 2.5k, run 93 octane, and you should be fine.

A tranny cooler would probably be a good idea as well.

if somethin goes wrong. its always messin with FI, but i've heard turbos require less maintenance than SC.

    I guess use 91, then..

I'm almost positive that we have 93 at some stations here, and at least one has racing fuel.. :)

well. keep your boost around 7 psi w/o forged internals in my opinion. Even though you don't really need to with the newer systems. I think its better safe than sorry to let your turbos run for a min or 2 before turning off your engine. Other than that. Just let your engine get used to the new load b4 you really open it up.

    We have 93 octane here.

Like mentioned, turbocharged engines can certainly be reliable. A couple things too make sure you do:

    Change oil often
    Keep the boost low
Run the engine for a minute when shutting off or use a turbo timer
Have it tuned with a piggyback computer, no FMU jerry-rigging
Have it tuned by someone who knows what they're doing
    Have the system intercooled
    Use high quality parts.

Let us know how it goes. :)

You're talking from a typical shop?

It will probably cost around $2500-$3000, and take... hmmm I have no idea actually. A week or two?

$3-4000 seems to be the going 'reasonable' rate..but I was quoted $8000 from a local rip-off artist here.

    $8000???

Well, you can do it yourself, or you can find someone like me who will do it and not charge you as much, but it will probably take longer.

Only other person that comes to mind is a buddy in Washington state that does the same kind of thing as me... this stuff but mostly on the side and for a cheap rate.

Basically you just need to find someone that has lots of swap experience from things that he's done for himself, and is willing to work on your car on his days off for a fair price.

um...... that's backwards..... turbo's require more work and maintenance than an s/c car..... s/c's are considered bolt on upgrades (to an extent)....

when i was planning on the ghetto turbo setup on the old mr2 i had (another one) i was expecting to spend only around $500 including manifold, turbo, intercooler, and piping.....

Typical speed/performance shops. There's one that I know of in Florida, BYP, they do lots of Toyota swaps, I've heard that he's pretty good. No idea on his rates though.

As an investment, it's the worst idea I've ever heard.

If you want some more power, it's a very good option.

    :D
