Turbo preparation? (Sorry if this should be in another forum or anything like that)

    Hey everyone,

A buddy and I want to put in turbos in our cars, I think a t25 for my 1zzfe rolla? and a t3 for his 97 Neon (no joke). And we want to know what would be the exact preparation to do for a turbo as in compression and stuff.

I am guessing that we have to get compression tests done, and change our pistons for different compression before the turbo is placed on. Because we don't want to blow a piston through a hood or anything haha. But yeah if anyone can give me insight, or direct me to a different thread if this has already been discussed. We just want to get as much knowledge as we can so we don't hurt the car or ourselves haha. But yeah thanks everyone, for checkin the thread out. And if anyone could, supply a site for a forum for neons if there is a following. Thank you, everyone have a great day.

building a turbo is not as easy as you think, specially on th 1ZZ engine.. you might want to ask superplun (i think that's his sn) or vemp... i remeber one of them or both of them have custom turbo kit

i was going to go turbo on my aw11... and was planning to show people that it isn't nearly as involved as everyone makes it seem..... but, plans change when opportunities are made available...

i was planning for just the manifold, turbo, piping to the trunk for a trunk mounted intercooler.... place AFM in front of the turbo.... then use a pressure switch to turn on the cold start injector for added fuel..... i had this planned out to be under $500, and could have easily been done......

you wouldn't have to change the compression unless you plan on running higher than 7-10 psi.....

Um, I would suggest a T3 or a T3/T04 turbo rather than a T25...Also, run about 5lbs of boost and not over 7.

And it is a LOT of work involved in building a turbo. My mechanic had my car for 6 days and worked on it non-stop. Also, there is not a turbo manifold for our 1zz, you have to build one. Also, injectors play a big role. Fuel managetment is FIRST PRIORITY!!! I run a Vortec FMU, Camry injectors and a Apexi SAFCII to adjust fuel map.

Stafford makes a kit but where do you live? I am in Alabama and my mechanic owns a performance shop. Here is the link to him building my turbo kit....

the $500 was just an initial plan to get it running and just say it can be done.... i was also planning to build a megasquirt ecu setup for it...... way better than any add on fuel management.... injectors..... blacktop 440's from a 3rd gen turbo supra

Why does everybody look down on t25, I don't think this guy is looking to hit over 250 hp.

T25 = shit on our cars...

ok they arent terrible but look at it this way. You put a T25 on now you have built exhaust manifold and downpipe for it as well as charge pipes... now you run it and it cant keep 10 psi at the top end time to get a new turbo (okj maybe not 10 but it loses top end fairly quickly) so you need new exhaust manifold and new downpipe and a new charge pipe to connect turbo to existiong charge pipes and a new turbo intake...

or you can go with a t3 .48/.60 which can get you to 17 psi or more fine and if you need to upgrade you change out the center for a .60/.63 and if you want t3/t4 hybrid you only need to add that to your current exhaust housing and modify charge pipe and intake pipe and your done...

basically T25 = shit because it leaves little to no upgrade possibilities... except maybe a t28!

also if your doing a turbo yourself like i did/am a lil still you will want to check out www.homemadeturbo.com

they can help you out a lot.. good peopel cheap parts and good ammounts of knowledge... as learning how to weld is a bonus... although I learned how to through the process lol
