    Troube with 1st gear?

    Hi All,

    Great site...

I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem that I am having.

    I have a 04 Corolla 5-spd Manual with 18000 miles.

Some times, when I try to put the car in 1st gear, I find it really hard to get it in. Not always however; I would say about 20 % of the time.

Also, when the car is going between 1MPH and 10MPH, I would say that it happens 70 % of the time.

It has been like that since day 1 and yes, I am pushing the clutch all the way to the firewall.

Anyone else with the same problem? Should I take it in before the warranty runs out?

    Thanks in advance...

    -Mario

You should only shift into 1st when your car is totally stopped... That's maybe the problem when your between 1 and 10 mph.

I never had any problem with the rolla transmission since now... hopefull it stays like this :)

i think its a safety thing so the tranny wont rev to high in case it was put into 1st gear. celica gt is like that too. but thats if im downshifting from second

    a little trick ...

before downshifting to 1st, give a little bit of gas so the engine will rev at the same speed (or near) as the tranny and your gear should get in easier.

But again, I don't recommand downshifting into 1st while the car is running...

That makes some sense, I guess.

But I also see this problem when I am TOTALLY stopped. The way to get around it, is to let go the clutch and press it again and then try to put it on first.

    It doesn't happen often though.
