TRD s/c stand alone + unichip or other FC = ?

theres a vibe guy that just did a trd S/C + unichip install on his 1zz. and it worked.

TRD s/c alone (no model specific ecu) 1500
unichip 700. (less if you grab one of the used ones floating around these forums)

assuming a plug and play A/F map is enough for you you could be S/C'd for less, and will get more, as the chip will have the map for the CAI and an exhaust.

seems like the way to go to me....

I'm a Matrix owner here, and I have been watching the S/C and Unichip setup very closely. For me, I already have a Unichip, so why spend and extra $1K to get a TRD piggy back ECU that wont be used?

You would not want to use a plug and play map for the S/C. You could get a generic map that would be safe enough to get you to a Unichip tuner for a custom tune.

Zoltiz on MatrixOwners.com is supposed to get his Unichip customed tuned for his S/C next week. Hopefully it will work out. The key to the Unichips success on a S/C lies in the skill and quality of the tuner.

I thought the TRD ECU ($1000 part of the $1500/$1000 setup) included more than just the ECU though? I really have no idea but could you really just go Uni and SC for $2200 ??

yes, but UV is right, a lot depends on the maps. theoreticallly there should be a P+P map that will get you 90% of the custome tune, but no one has tried this yet that i know of...

beyond that factor another 125 for a custom tune (IF there is a unichip tuner near you)

really in theory any decent Air/Fuel controller should work in place of the TRD unit.

Here is a link to the tbm34's setup for his Pontiac Vibe. http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=9588

I pm'd him about his setup, and he had Unichip send him a very 'safe' generic map to start with until he could get the custom tune.

Also, I know the A/F controllers the Matrix people are using cant control the S/C boost. So the A/F controller is used along with the TRD ECU. With the Unichip, you would not need the TRD ECU or the A/F controller.

you guys talk about these three models, vibe, corolla, and matrix like they ar diferent... its all the same thing besides the symbols, hatchbacks and body parts, or if you have the GT or XRS models.

ok funny story time.... i work at advance auto parts and of course i own an 03 corolla. i had a vibe owner come ing and talk about how he hates toyota and he will only buy general motors cars and shit... so of course i let him in on the secret about his car... the guy flipped out and was like no this isnt a toyota its american and all this bullshit. so i told him id open my hood next to his and let him see for himself... the guy turned beat red and apologized for being irate... lol some people believe they really drive american car just because its has an american name on it. good luck finding a true american car anymore

very true. I've disassebled my mustang engine and found that the entire thing came from great britain.

I wonder what kind of equipment you need to tune the unichip.

True, they are all pretty much the same mechanically. However, when it comes to talk about tuning, ECU's etc, their are some differences. The Vibe has a GM ECU which is a different ECU than the Matrix. I also believe that the 04 Corollas have different fuel maps than the 03's. I usually just point out the type of car so that people will be aware that there may be diffences if they try to make the mod on their car.
