    TRD S/c Ecu Vs UniChip/Jet

Told ya I'd be posting like crazy. :) Anyway to my point. After I installed my cai I was considering the usual exhaust, but wanted to do something with the ecu to get the most out of my mods. So I get ahold of someone at TRD in cali and they tell me they don't do anything to ecus. But with the s/c for the '03 corolla it comes with an ecu. Interesting...Anyway my question is, will the trd ecu just balance the fuel/air ratio with just the s/c. Will it balance everything based on it's readings, or what. on a side note I was curious if anyone has there rpm limiter taken off. If so, what is the basic safepoint for the rollas lil engine. And just the question which is, will the trd ecu help my cars performance over the uni/jet. Or vice versa. Anyone who knows help me out here. Again thanks in advance. :D

The rev limiter has not been taken off to my knowledge but I plan on doing it since the 1zz has been proven to take 7500RPMs all day long in the MR-S's.

The TRD ECU is actually just a piggyback unit like the Unichip and only works with the S/C since it can't be programmed :?

ahh crap. So the trd one is a piggy back. and it can't be tuned. So it's basically useless to my standards  . 7,500 rpms sounds about right now that I think about it. I heard 8k but that's pushing daily driving standards. So something along the lines of a Unichip with maybe an Apexi Safc would be in order. Cool, thanks for clearing that up

Hmmmm? Not sure about that 7500 rpm thing. The Celica GT and MR-S both have the 1ZZ-FE engine. However, that make a few more hp (8) and redline @ 6750rpm I think. I'm fairly certain of this, but may be lying. Corolla and Matrix redline @ 6450 and Celica and MR-S @ 6750 b/c we make peak hp @ 6000rpms and redline after increasing 450 more rpms. Same with Celica and Spyder - max hp is 138 @ 6400 and they redline after another 350rpm.

tell you the truth... Unichip sucks...

you better off getting TRD piggyback and get a split-fire controller (i think that's the name).. Unichip gave me alot of trouble.. my engine died because of it..

There's no point in removing the rev limiter in this car. It won't make the car go any faster.

This is true, but I want to remove it when I do my full engine build-up and some FI on the thing. It's just too small of a rev range for me to work with :?

another lovely day at work. so unichip sucks? interesting, so what other decent options would I have. As far as the rev limiter I was just curious. I'm actually saving up for a 3sgte full swap. Long term plans but meh.
