    TRD EXHAUST/MUFFLER

I'm almost done with my exterior mods, just missing 18'' velox performance gloss black w/machined lip rims, and was soley interested in an exhaust for performance/sound. I like the fact that TRD will back up a toyota warranty, and thus was interested in purchasing it. My question is if the sound is at least a noticeable difference, I know its the quietest one, but I want it to be noticeable. Are the magnaflows or borla exhausts too loud? how much hp gain is there in these exhausts besides the poor 3hp on the TRD. I live in Miami, Fl and there's disgusting rice burners everywhere. I want sound, but not a fart can.

    411?

    Thanks

My video of my TRD muffler before I switched to a custom exhaust with HKS Carbon-Ti.

    http://www.kueitech.com/trdmuffler.mov (Quicktime format)

The TRD muffler's HP gains are truly pathetic I'm sorry to say. But that is to be expected because they really don't expand the exhaust piping that much, they simply offer you a freer-flowing muffler that produces slightly deeper sound at certain RPM levels.

However, I swapped it for a custom 2.25"/2.5" exhaust with the HKS Carbon-Ti (Turbo) muffler. Combined with my TRD intake, the DynoJet at Modacar (Livermore, CA) showed 127 whp and 123 ft-lbs torque (I have 5-spd manual). Stock is about 112 whp or so, and my friend with AEM CAI got 118whp. Assuming that the TRD and AEM intakes are roughly equal as far as hp gains, that means that my exhaust allowed me to gain another 9whp or so. That's quite substantial on such a small engine and proves that the stock exhaust is incredibly restrictive.

The setup I have may/may not be to your taste. It's gets quite loud above 3000rpms, but it has a very smooth tone, which I feel is more important than volume. There is an optional silencer that can be installed, but then that reduces power.

The MagnaFlow was a good unit from what I saw while helping my friend install it. It replaces the resonator with a straight-through, high-flow res. and enlarges the piping a bit more than the TRD muffler, and the muffler itself does a good job of keeping noise levels down, but the tone that it emits seems more like a sportsbike than a really deep resonating tone. That's my opinion from comparison between mine and my friend's.

    Hope all that helped.
