    Tranny Noise

okay well my rides got a lil over 150k miles on it ( automatic ) .. and when im riding down the road .. and let off the gas completely then get back on it .. it feels as though the tranny is slipping i guess uyou could say .. like i hear a lil knock sound right when i get back on it .. and thats not gunning it .. just back on the gas normally ..any ideas as to what it is .. someone told me i need to change the tranny fluids , but other than that noise .. its drives fine .. no loss in power , no missed shifts , or drowned out gears ..

also i know this isnt the correct thread but i aslo have a question about a major vibration im getting in 2nd gear ..the car shakes .. almost all the way through second gear .. what could that be ? ive thought maybe it could be a bent rim , bad strut ,lose strut, maybe my mufflers causing the vibration .. but it even vibrates in the steering wheel .. any ideas ??

    thanks in advance ..

I had the service done... I even had the valve body flushing done..... What i might do and what you might want to do is maybe get the throttle valve cable (TV cable) replaced.

im getting that same feeling with my auto 98 corolla. I have 116k miles. Seems like sometimes when Im in second gear and it wants to downshift into 1st gear it seems to want to slip into first gear. But I dont get a noise though.

The transmission should have the fluids drained and refilled at least every 60K miles. I generally go about 30K and do a drain and refill, drop the pan and clean out the filter and magnets in the bottom of the pan - since i sometimes drive a lot of stop and go and pull a trailer.

The knocking noise, when you get back on the gas, could be CV joints, loose/worn suspension components, or transmission/motor mounts that are worn or loose. This would also tie in with the vibration that you feel in second gear.

That feeling of slippage is hard to overcome - automatics just operate that way. Going to a synthetic ATF may help with internal noises and help smooth out the shifts.

If the fluid hasn't be serviced - might be a good idea to have it done just to see what will happen.

    Good Luck.
