Read movie's post... I have one that flares up in the front-middle of the hood, plus a big ol' vent too.

Yeah the new hood doesn't have the padding either, plus I lifted it in the back, which is like another inch of clearance as well.

the "crashed front end" lift in the back won't do much for the front side clearance though...and this will mount up in the front of the engine on the intake manifold...right? give it a shot mack

Yeah it sits right up front, and true that lift doesn't do much for the front of the hood, but any tiny bit would help. I wonder how much a supercharger would be better than a turbo. I mean I know superchargers come on quick and don't have much pull up top, and turbo is opposite with the lag down low and all that but like cost versus gain, which would be better.

superchargers feel like stock, except with more power. Turbos will make you shit your pants at top rpms. but in reality, unless you're running a fully rebuilt interior you shouldn't be redlining everytime you peal out from a stop light, which is why superchargers appeal more for daily driving.

mack, retro fit a kenne bell supercharger onto your rolla =D you can get a unit for about twice that price

I should beef up the inside of my motor, I kinda beat on it pretty hard, but surprisingly nothing has ever happened with my car except two flat tires within about ten minutes of each other. What are some good parts to rebuild the engine with? I mean I know like what they are but everything aftermarket is made for Civics S2000s or Supras I never see anything for our engines.

Yeah I've heard of them but last time I went there I couldn't find anything for the Corolla, I know the Celica has the same engine except for vvti so could I choose parts for the Celica?

they have parts for the corolla, the 9th gen has an almost identical 1ZZ as the 8th gen.

MWR ftw all of the 1zz stuff is interchangeable for other 1zz's as long as you have the vvti....except for intakes/exhaust

Glad to see some good questions asked here. I know I'll probly be shunned upon for doing it, but i'll be trying out the electric turbo sometime in the future so I'll be sure to let you all know how that goes.

Maybe I'll switch over to vvti, I know I need the ECU from a newer 1zz right? What else? I know there are like 3400 threads about that on toyotanation but I haven't been there in forever, and don't feel like going back lol

you just need the motor and the ecu and probly an engine harness. mackman; do you have a VE or CE. how many gears does your tranny have?

I have a CE with a 4 speed auto. But sometimes if I am careful with the speed and throttle it sounds like there is 5, because it sounds like it barely wants to drop out of 4th and into 3rd, but I know it's not 3rd, which would mean it's actually going from 5th... nevermind I can't explain what I'm talking about lol.

I know that didn't make sense lol
When I'm cruising in 4th gear (it's an automatic) and I press the gas a little bit, the revs jump up and it sounds like it drops a gear, which would put it in third. But I know it's not third because I can hit my o/d off switch and it drops down even more which is actually third, so it feels like there may be a 5th gear which is ever so slightly taller than 4th lol
But I'm sure it's just the computer messing with the throttle and giving it a bit more gas so it doesn't actually go into third. I know it sounds weird so I'll make a video of it. I never noticed it until I did my exhaust, so now my car is so damn loud I can hear every little change in the rpm range so it stands out more.

There is a "highway" gear in the tranny. I know when I had my 3spd in the Prizm when I hit 55mph the rpms would drop like 4-500.

you need the engine, wiring harness, and ecu. you can strap an ECU from a celica if you ahve a celica intake/tb and you will get some decent gains....mostly midrange gains but idk if you will get any horsepower out of it. I think it just changes the way the power graph looks.

transmissions should be direct bolt ons. dont forget to change your seals if you swap the engine.

ok good lol I know it's weird but so is the shifting. it's not strong enough to be considered a shift, that's why I think it's throttle related. maybe the ECU just opening it up a bit as a means of accelerating instead of a full downshift? wait we don't have drive by wire... damn I don't know. who here has taken apart the 4speed and looked at it? lol
