TOYOTA - YOU'RE MISSING THE BOAT!!

I would like to see a performance Corolla that has some teeth! All the parts are already on the shelf to make a factory pocket rocket. Between Toyota and TRD, a lowered hot version could be assembled with minimal fuss. The 180 HP engine exists, a heavier clutch, slight drop, 4 wheel discs, handling package, seats with bolsters, short throw 5/6 speed etc., etc.

I, for one, would gladly pay for such a sleeper. Offer it and they will come!

Re: TOYOTA - YOU'RE MISSING THE BOAT!!

Just wait and see what happens for the 2004 Corollas. There is supposed to be a 4WD version coming out, using the 2ZZGE. It's supposed to be about 200+ HP. This came from someone on VVTI whos father works at Toyota's HQ. It's exciting information, lets just hope it is true.

Are you sure there's an all wheel drive Corolla coming out? I never heard anything on that. Yes, TRD is working together with Toyota for mods on the COrolla.

i think i'm just gonna hold onto my corolla for a few years so i can see what they come out with next. givew toyota a few more years and if they decide they really want a piece of the market they'll probably come out with a killer car

Yeah, and good way to save some money too. I'm still debating what I should do next year. Somewhere in the back of my mind, I want to stay with the Corolla too just to see what cars will come out next. Then again, I could just get an STi or something like that. It looks like the trend of "hot rods" is coming back. Cars are getting faster again, as far as the emmission controlled vehicles go.

now a sports car with the 2jz-gte and all wheel drive would definately qualify as a killer car

the 2jz-gte AWD concept is Nuckin' Futz! NUCKIN' FUTZ i tell you!! and imagine if it still had the same chassis and body that we have and you can just keep the exterior looking stock. hahaha!!! now thats a sleeper!

i dont know if this is a little too much....but a couple of time ive had a dream of my car having AWD pushing 300+ hp with the 3sgte (Celica GT-Four) engine.

another time, i had a dream that i made it an FR layout. drifted with it across intersections like they do in japan. hahahah

but let's say they do plan on coming out with a 2zz with 4wd... do you think its gonna be AWD? or just 4wd when losing traction on the front tires. cuz thats how the 4wd matrix is...and i believe its only pushing 122hp...

an AWD corolla with the 2zz engine is a good idea. it prolly wont keep up with WRX's. what do you guys think?

NO... 2ZZ with 4WD will not be good at all since there's NO torque for the engine. By the time your engine spins to 6000 rpm to get all the torque, a 3S-GTE would have already left you behind... 3S-GTE is the only way to go. Or any other Turbo application. There's a reason why the Evo's and Subie's are Turbo 4 cylinders.

Well, based on what is already available for the Corolla/Matrix chassis, a Corolla WRX/EVO contender car shouldn't be that hard to come up with. You'd have to put in a better AWD system mated to a manual transmission. There's already AWD running gear, 4-way discs with ABS, and sport-tuned suspension and steering available. And I don't know about the 2ZZ, but the 1ZZ engine seems to lend itself well to forced induction.

The XRS is "getting there" but not quite. I'm hoping Toyota will get back into WRC. That might put the bug in them to make a rally-inspired production car. Only problem with that is it would probably be a hatch version and won't be available in the states.

well i don't think i'd mind a hatchback, as long as its only 2 door (well three if u count the hatch)

all this talk of turbo and AWD makes me wonder if i should stick fixing up the 1ZZ or just swapping in a 3s-gte and the AWD tranny ( if i could find one... and afford it)

i wish toyota would go that direction, at least as a crazy special edition... and it would still be cheaper than an Evo or an STi, but oh well

i think that the reason toyota doesnt build a turbo AWD car is not because they cant more because theyd prob haveta build and entire new engine to run it or heavily modify and existhing one. all the engine they make here in the U.S. today are build up for N.A. power so the compression rate are high. not to mention these damn emission laws. but i think theat if enough people show interest in these corolla's and matrix's toyota might just build us a toy to buy.
