Toyota Hybrid X Concept - Auto Shows
    Is this the next Prius?
    BY TONY SWAN, March 2007
Unveiled at the Geneva show, the Toyota Hybrid X suggests a further radicalization of an automotive market segment—hybrids—where Toyota holds a commanding lead, thanks largely to the compact Prius sedan.
Like the Prius, the Hybrid X is a four-door design, propelled by an updated version of Toyota’s successful gasoline-electric hybrid synergy drive. Toyota wasn’t specific about powertrain updates, other than to suggest improved efficiency with a consequent reduction in emissions.
But there were plenty of specifics about the vehicle that surrounds the powertrain.
For example, the concept’s interior has an exceptionally open feeling, thanks to a steeply raked windshield that extends over the dashboard and a roof that’s almost entirely composed of glass.
Windshield spurs that extend almost down to the bumper cover the headlamps, enhancing the car’s aerodynamic efficiency, and the rear doors are hinged at the back to maximize access to the four-seat interior.
High-tech touches include LED interior lighting that allows variable intensity, interactive navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, drive-by-wire steering, and, very important, a scent diffuser that “fills the air with a gentle, relaxing aroma,” according to Toyota.
