    Toyota Corolla Compressor

    Published: Tue, 25 Oct 2005 01:02:35 +0000

Available only in strictly limited numbers, the Corolla Compressor uses the same 1,794cc VVTL-i four-cylinder engine as the T Sport, but with a supercharger added to boost output from 189 to 215bhp (217 DIN hp) and technical adjustments to meet Euro IV emissions standards. That helps knock one-and-a-half seconds off the car’s 0-62mph acceleration time, down to 6.9 seconds, and adds 3mph to the top speed, now 143mph.

Thanks to extra torque at lower engine speeds – a maximum 215Nm at 4,000rpm – the Corolla Compressor delivers supremely flexible performance: acceleration from 50 to 75mph in fifth gear is accomplished in 8.5 seconds, while the shift from 37 to 62mph in fourth takes only 6.1 seconds.

To cope with the power hike, the Corolla Compressor is fettled with 15mm lowered sports suspension and uprated springs for extra handling performance. It looks the part, too, riding on 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/45 tyres and dressed with a roof spoiler, deep rear air dam and sports exhaust with twin tailpipes.

Only 250 right-hand drive Corolla Compressor models are being made available in the UK, so potential owners will have to move almost as quickly as the car they desire in order to secure one. The model goes on sale on 1 November 2006, priced on-the-road at £19,995.

Toyota has to start selling the hatchback and that model over here!

I was just saying what the torque was in ft-lbs to save you guys from having to convert it, heh... yah, I saw a few other places saying the power was actually 225 and not 215... probalby have to wait until a bigger news source releases more accurate info on it...

for a car with that amount of power, it doesn't sound extremely impressive. but seriously, we need that body in the states. It looks badass.

Yeah it could be faster with 215hp. It probably has traction problems, because a WRX is about a second faster to 60mph.

Toyota has always been conservative with their performance figure, for the regular T-Verso (2ZZ-GE with 192 hp and a 6 speed) they claimed 0-60 in 8.0 seconds... so the car probably does more like 6.0 seconds flat 0-60... if it can take off (not much torque, so it probably does take off well)

toyota never brings the"good stuff" here in america... so they can suck it...lol... l/k... but its starting to piss me off though... coz corollas dont have a good reputation no more... oh well... the only good part is, the 98-02 corollas here have a 1.8l and the ones in asia only had a 1.6l engine... eh...
