    Tips for Installing a Tach

Hey guys, I am new to the forum, and really glad I found a Corolla Community. Anyways, I have a 96 Corolla manual, and the car doesn't come with a tachometer. So my friend bought me one for Christmas, but I am afraid to put it on because I will get lost with the wiring and stuff. Just a couple questions, like, since my car didn't come with a tach, will there even be a tach sensor wire to connect to? Below is a picture of my new tach, if you guys have any tips, please let me know.

You know you can go to the local pick-a-part and get yourself a stock cluster that has a tach. It should connect right in to your dash.

Yeah, I know, but my friend got it for me for Christmas, so I want to use it.

yep i went thru this , you can get a tach signal from the diagnostics port under your hood . the very first port in there on the front side of your car . it will be marked IG- take a spade connector and slide into that port . i drilled a hole in the top of my diag. cover to slide my wire thru , then sealed up the holr around the wire with black silicon.

any more questions let me know , ive been there.

oh yeah , you can also get a signal from the black wire w/ the brown stripe or visa versa the two wires that run over and plug into your distributer
