timing chain in place of timing belt?

Just out of curiosity.... is it possible to put a timing chain in place of a timing belt. I found this used 97 paseo convertible on ebay I was thinking of buying. I was just curious if this was possible. Thanks.

nah, you'll spend SOOO much tryin to do it-the price would equal having a shop replace the belt 5 times over...

belts are sopose to last 70k miles. I mean how often do you change yours that you would need a metal chain.

chains get loose over time anywys and changing a timing chain is much more costly

yeah... but they last longer :) As for getting loose, as long as the tensioner is all good you're okay. The one that's on the 98 Corolla's is insane... 108K miles on my ride and the chain is as tight as it was when I got it.

which year, 98-00s or 01-02s came with timing chains factory? Read somewhere that 1 of the 2 generations used timing chains in place of timing belts.

I believe 98-02 all have them. I know 98-99 does for a fact, lol. But Ive never looked at an 00-02 under the valve cover.
