time to start thinking about added performance

ok... my turn to start plans for preparing my car!
ok :ninjastea (no time for starting the project has been proyected yet)

time to fix my car is completed (i won't fix the exterior, since, a. I want a sleeper, b. not worth it..., c. you don't know where I live....)
chassis has been solid (before I got it in my hands it was in a collision, I know it was frontal)

and.... I fixed everything the car has had, minor maintainance slips previous owner did to the poor car

so I've started to read up and educate myself over serious mods and turbocharging...

    so...

I want a 1zz-FE or a stroked 2zz-ge, why stroked? because there's a lot of hills and I need a "torquey" low end so I don't have to be revving all the time in hills here... the other problem concerning the engine...

stroking a 2ZZ-GE, due to additional length of the of the stroke, would it be possible to hit the critical "lift engagement" rpm band, for long enough to make it usefull at all? cause obviously the redline will fall with the stroking.

the 1ZZ-FE can also be punched to 1.97L, same displacement the 2ZZ will reach with the stroking. I already have the 1zzfe :p
so... I'm leaning over the 1zz route, unless the diferrence is pretty big

and another thing will be the transmission, auto to manual, but I won't ask about that since..... there's a very comprenhensive thread about it.

I think boring works better for torque but I'm sure somebody will correct me.

    Hi Saber,
Glad to see your're looking into performance upgrades. :)

MWR sells Crower 1zz and 2zz stage II F/I Cams, that raise your redline (in the 1zz anyway) I'm not sure if they raise the already high 2zz redline limit, but I would call and ask Matt. (good guy over there)

The 1zz Cams will increase the redline from 6500 to 7500, and used in conjunction with their soon-to-be-released Power FC(a full stand alone Unit) it will increase power throughout the entire power band, or so I'm told. :)

The 1zz, if I read right increses to 1.93L (negligable difference fron your post really just getting the numbers right) What use to be called the big bore kit is now called a sleeve and piston kit, available from MWR for a nice price. There are a few people on 9thgen that are considering this mod, and one person has just purchased the kit. Hopefully we'll get install pics if we're lucky. (If I see 'em I'll sneak em over here. lol)

If you already have the 1zz, I would suggest keeping it and going with what you have. I spoke with Dr. Tweak a while back about engine swaps, he gave me some great info. Its really just not worth it to swap the 2zz unless you really want it AND are going the F/I route. (Not worth it=$$$ it may be still worth it to you personally) The money spent to swap the 1zz, after buying the new engine, supporting parts to include new axels/axles (never remember which one is guns and roses and which one is right lol) you could have built up the 1zz you have and would be ready for f/i with a built engine.

    two cents...

I got a friend that is a car madman, his daily driver is a 1996 Acura Integra B18"something" with a spider like thing for a header and a turbo so huge he had to get a special half lenght radiator... but it is tripled cored, so... I suppose it's good enough cooled, anyways...

he uses high compression pistons, 1000cc injectors, air2air intercooler with water spraying system or something, I know it has a tube over the intercooler...

and he has showed me his recorded pulls in his computer, 24psi @ 10430rpms...

    high compression pistons.... turbo....

I just want a turbo good for 8~10psi. I live at sea level....
plus I don't want to be the be all end all rolla, it would be nice though lol

there's a thread here or in vvti.net with a very complete details about the swap, even thought it's a diferrent year

Cam's don't reaise your redline... they'll shift your power curve. Upgrading valve springs and reatainers will allow you to raise your revlimit.
