Throttle body coolant bypass mod is one of those ideas that actually had some performance bearing in some cars - but completely got twisted around and misunderstood over the years. Actually used in F-bodies and Mustangs with great success - but those systems are vastly different than what you see in our Toyotas.

On a highly optimized FI engine - I wouldn't do this mod. In almost all cases, you'll experienece almost zero gains and in some situations, lose of power.

The basic idea is to keep hot coolant away from the TB to maximize performance (colder air is better idea) and that this "cold start" feature is not needed in warmer areas - sounds good in passing, but realize that the throttle body runs much hotter than coolant temperatures in normal operations (with coolant being very good moderator of temperature variations (almost a constant heat bath) - higher temperature of motor dictated by emissions regs). Also heating the TB evenly will ensure that the flow of air though it is maximized through the TB (boundary layer right next to TB walls will help "insulate" the air temps moving through the TB and help keep the air moving easily).

^^ highly agree. You arent going to see much of a gain, actually you probably wont see any gain at all except for the one in your mind haha. Also, if you live up north and you do this mod... you could be hurting come winter time. IMO... leave it be
