i totally agree-there's no freakin way enough water can get into the engine to damage it via short ram-i mean i drive all the time in the rain with he filter in the fender suckin all the water-as long as it's not submerged, i'll be fine...although i am starting to get worried... :(

sadly, i didn't mis shift, i dont suck that bad.

a while ago i hyrdolocked the engine, and i decided to just crank the engine instead of pulling the plugs and pumping the water out. by doing so, i bent the rod in the second cylinder (from the left), and it probably was damn weakened by so, and explains the low compression reading from that cylinder before it went.

as i was shifting to third, at about 3k, i let the clutch back in and BAM metal sounding oil spurting and i am forced to pull to the side.

sorta crazy, some may think i'm dumb. but i've learned the reason for the check engine light coming back on, and that when hydrolocked, pump it out after removing the plugs.

    injen styled intake...

going through puddles, water goes into engine bay, intake sucks it in.

The same thing just happened to my 98 w/78k miles on it. It is an auto though, is this sort of thing common? There was no water or signs of previous damage though.

I plan on swapping a 2000 Corolla engine in, +5 HP.

that must have been more than a puddle that you drove through to suck in water with a short-ram intake.

Can you get the MWR big bore kit and forged rods instead, or is that too expensive?

i didnt tell them i was racing...i told them i was coming off a freeway exit and i was merging into thick traffic, and i downshifted from 5th to get more torque to get in front of a car, and i hit the wrong gear. they wernt to happy about it. u shoulda seen me. i was scared shitless.

i had to put my stock airbox and crap back in, and they wernt to pleased witht the strutbar goin across the engine bay.

but they did replace the head and block for free...but broke my door handle in the process, and neglected to fix it.

i dont think ive ever sucked water in mine, it sits right where the stock air box was

and you will be fine with a cai of you get a bypass valve, it opens up when theres alot of water around the filter so no water can be sucked in

alright...hm, lets see, i think i know what happened.

first everyone needs to get off their bomb dickityness.

i was derbying through VERY LARGE PUDDLES OF WATER, like deep, it had just rained and there was mud and everyting. so i decided to have fun and what happened was water flew all in the engine bay, MY CUSTOM MADE INJEN STYLED INTAKE was hover over the area where there appears to space in teh engine bay. the intake proceeded to suck in water, thus hydrolocking the engine.

supa prop home dog style to vortex for having humor about it, it was funny to see the rod just hanging ther when the oil pan came off
