I agree with the VW guys, thumbs down for this Jetta. Why a 6 speed auto on an engine with 150hp??

"The Jetta V will initially be offered early next year with an all-new 2.5l inline-5 cylinder derived from the V10 Lamborghini Gallardo engine. This engine will essentially be replacing the exising 2.0l 4-cylinder as the new base engine. Volkswagen says the new 2.5l inline-5 will make 150hp and 168 lb-ft. of torque and will be mated to either the MQ250 five-speed transmission or the butter smooth Aisin built six-speed tiptronic automatic. Volkswagen tells us the 2.5l inline-5 has been "detuned" to 150hp for a base engine configuration but is capable of a bit more horsepower, so there is plenty of room to grow with this new engine. There will also be a 100hp 1.9l TDI diesel option available with a five-speed manual or Volkswagen's trick six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) and finally the venerable 2.0l FSI 4-cylinder turbo with 200hp and a MQ350 six-speed manual or six-speed DSG (no tiptronic with the 2.0T) will be available in both higher trim level Jetta V models and in the forthcoming Jetta GLI model. There are no current plans to offer a VR6 model at this point although Volkswagen points out that it is still a possibility. So engine choices and particularly transmission choices look promising and we'll keep our fingers crossed for a 3.2l VR6 model with 4motion AWD"
Ugly front end. Looks too much like a corolla.

It looks similar to the current generation Passat. Even the current Jettas are as heavy as pigs (the 1.8T weighs 3106 lbs) on such a tiny frame. This one I suspect will be tip the scale at 3200 lbs or maybe more. The lights on the back end look somewhat like a Corolla and no it does not look like a Corolla from the front whatsoever. The front end is modelled after the current generation Passat (Note to the people who keep calling it 'as ugly as a Corolla': Stop insulting Corollas on a Corolla board. If you want to do it, feel free to go on a Honda board or a Volkwagen board and knock yourself out).

Well, from someone that has a passat, it is NOT modelled after the current front end.

And stop being a baby, and getting all upset when someone says that it looks like the front end of a newer corolla.
Just because its a COROLLA board, doesnt mean that we have to like certain aspects of a corolla..I personally dont like the new corollas. So chill out and learn to accept criticism. This topic has been discussed on these boards before, and yeah, Im the only one in THIS thread that compared it to a corolla...and I have a right to an opinion. Learn to deal with it.

The lower part of the jetta and passat at the same, the 3 grills with pieces seperating them. Between headlights and bottom is simular with that lil peice, center grill is kinda alike, but no curve on the one

I personally think it has a resemblence kinda.

Just got back from the auto show where they had the new Jetta on display. I saw it closely. Quite honestly and no offense, the Jetta front end looks far better than the bland and boring front end of the Passat. Just my two cents.

Only some in the bumper and parts of lower valence. The overhang on TSX is quite short while this Jetta has a long overhang. Although, European cars have a very common vocabulary and framework that is generic to all of them i.e thick pillars, beefy bumpers that have a "u" shaped look to it, more aerodynamic curvy look on edges, lights with some kind of involvement of round circles in it etc. hence the European look. Japanese automakers have been incorporating a lot of themese from European cars.

Well, Ive test driven the new Jetta....and it looks like a new corolla, and I dont like it. By your logic, since I dont like the new corollas, I shouldnt be on this board? Or I shouldnt be stating that opinion?
And you can tell people to stop "insulting" you....but you are essentially telling the creator of this site to take his opinions to a Honda board or VW board.

hey to be honest... the grille/front fascia (minus headlights) of the jetta looks like a remodeled passat but the shape and feel of the car scream corolla. nothing the matter with a corolla; but why not make a jetta have its own style. thats all.

I think the design sucks in the sense that VW had to copy from the Corolla. Someone should of caught how close the two cars looked especially since the Corolla style has been out since 03. But for all we know, Toyota could of teamed up with VW like how Toyota teamed up with Chevy for the Prizm.
