    The ghetto intake heatshield

This is my ghetto heatshield for my intake that faces the exhaust manifold.

While it does help with the heat, I noticed that the plastic cup is now melting. Can anyone suggest a cheap product or scrap packaging perferably that is around the same size? I'm thinking a metal bucket, but I can't find one that small. Help me brainstorm!

good one, except that is exactly my point. It's my daily driver/work car not a show car or performance car, what do I have to lose?

haha hell yeah! I think I'm going to try to create something like this Dragon filter heat shield.

I really don't like how close to the exhaust manifold my intake is. All it is drawing in is hot air.

I have one of those. Its not installed though, I got it when I bought the intake, but switched the POS filter with an Injen one. That heat shield wont fit any other filter though.

No one makes one. It is a 2004 1zzfe into a 8th gen. body. As you know the 04 1zzfe throttle body is bigger and points out and up in another direction from my original. I gotta hack this one up or do what I can with it.

get an injen cai for the 1zz and slice it up to make it fit... itll probably be less work and will net you far greater gains. shoot, ill sell you mine when i get my ppe intake in january. i even cut it to make it a 2 piece so you can run short ram or cai. plus its not as ghetto as slicing a dinty moore beef stew can up and using it as a heat shield.

I'm not positive but I think Injen cost about $200 for a short ram and the Injen for the 8th gen. has the same location behind the exhaust manifold. I'm not looking to spend that much for maybe 1-2 HP gain. Let me know when you do want to get rid of your Injen. In the meantime, I am going to go down to the auto parts store tomorrow to see if I can find some 2.75" exhaust elbows to play with and maybe reroute it behind the battery. Otherwise, beef stew can it is! :signBling

If you are trying to offend me it's not going to work. Can't you tell that I don't care? Some people buy $200 carbon fiber valve covers for their engine and wash their engine every week with a toothbrush...I don't. Like I said it's a work car I don't care if my engine compartment is full of milk jugs, beer cans, or baby diapers. I am not the showoff type that pops my hood every chance I get to show off my little 1.8L engine. The only person that sees what is inside my hood is me.

heh, actually my valve cover looks like crap. It looks clean because its wet.

I think a coffee can would be great. Its metal, and is around the size of an air filter. I'm like you, where I really don't care about how it looks or how much it costs. The cheap and creative things are always so much better.

By the way I think I might try a coffee can.

hmmm nice. When I tried that the fuse box got in the way....I'll see what I can do.

The only way I see a CAI happening is rerouting the battery to the back or routing the filter down below the brake fluid container. Battery in the trunk is impractical for me. Maybe I'll try to fabricate something to hold the battery where the stock airbox was. There is a lot of hoses and cable in the area below the brake fluid container so I don't think I'm going that route plus it still gets a tad warm there. But I am really satisfied that it is out of sucking hot air from the exhaust manifold.

Yeah I agree with you on that. Seriously, I'm not cheap or have problem buying stuff for my car. This year alone, I just dropped OVER $5500 in work for this 11 year old workcar with over 230,000 miles on the body. I doubt this car is worth that much. It is just the fact that the only person looking at the mess in my engine bay is ME. Who am I trying to impress with this Corolla? Why should I buy an overpriced item when I can create one that works the same for free or next to free? There is really no advanced engineering behind a heatshield. :thumb:
