around here...kids think they own the streets. just yesterday a 15yr old was on Rt.15 and was speeding. when the cop went after her, she tried to elude them. next thing you know, she lost control of the car, hit a few trees and landed in a field. she was airlifted to the hospital and was pronounced dead.

and another accident in MD yesterday killed one pedestrian and injured others. they think it was kids racing from what the witnesses say.

well...im not gonna say the name of the city...but....there is a small town near the oasis city of Enid, Oklahoma...when i say small i mean small....only two on duty cops for the whole town...and when you're that secluded in the country, i guess people have a mindset that they can get away with a whole lot...one of these cops are somewhat young in his 20s and lets teenagers and others alike race him in his cop car...he also bought beer for people and drank with these people....

It's all about experience. Am I a better driver now than when I started 8 years ago? Hell yes I am.

...reminds me of the stuff my dad used to say. "You'll understand when you are older." Then one day I turned 21...and it all clicked into place.

Teenage mindset. They believe they are invincible...and the car is a shield against them and everything else.

I'll say this too, it's a little off-topic, but close enough. When I started riding a motorcycle, you become a LOT more attentive to what's going on around you. A small rock could kill you, so you are watching the road in completely different ways...but it takes that added self-control.

i try to be the best teen driver... since my last accident, the only close calls that i was getting into was while im with my mom... when im actually trying to drive very defensively... when im by myself i feel more comfortable... i was actually watching on the news about teen drivers... i saw this one kid with a hidden cam on his car... while trying to make a left turn, he actually tried to put his car in the oncomming traffic lane to force to stop them so he can turn right away... i dont do that shit... i dont even have the balls to do that... i think thats what makes US teen drivers suck... thinking that we OWN the streets and thinking we are good drivers... i admit im not... i think big trucks and busses own the streets... if i mess with them they can own my car...lol...

Its the whole scene from 'That 70's Show' that I picture. The teens all singing and being stupid in the car, and then something happens... The temptation is just too great to show your friends you have something new, and to share it with them. We just aren't experienced enough then to allow for so many distractions in the car.

I know in NJ, you do not get a real license until you are 18. when you turn 16 you get your permit, when you're 17 you get a restrictive license. basically simliar to a permit but now you do not need anyone who is 21 yrs or older and has had 3 or more years of driving expierence to sit with you in the car.

They implemented this not long ago. I know my sister had to go thru this the first year it came out. I guess that one extra year lets them better understand the road when they're by themselves.

If you live in the country (or a farm for that matter), there is no age limit as to how old you must be to drive....as long as you can show you can operate a vehicle....its like a special license thats intended to allow drivers who are under 16 to operate a "farm vehicle"....this is not limited to like a big tractor or anything...if you have like a car or pick up and you wanna go down to the city to pick up some feed or something, then that falls within their privileges..

Edit: Nevermind...i just checked up on that particular law and apparently it had be revised so many times and now, you have to be 14 years old...i remember reading bout this particular law sometime before i got into highschool....check out how many times they revised it tho (below)...

    This is the actual law..

The Department may in its discretion issue a special permit to any person who has attained the age of fourteen (14) years, authorizing such person to operate farm vehicles between the farm and the market to haul commodities grown on the farm; provided, that the special permit shall be temporary and shall expire not more than thirty (30) days after the issuance of the special permit. Special permits shall be issued only to farm residents and shall be issued only during the time of the harvest of the principal crops grown on such farm. Provided, however, the Department shall not issue a special permit pursuant to this subsection until the Department is fully satisfied after the examination of the application and other evidence furnished in support thereof, that the person is physically and mentally developed to such a degree that the operation of a motor vehicle by the person would not be inimical to public safety.

This is how many times they revised it....

I think VA has something similar. and the only people who can be in the car that are underage are immediate family members. And you can have up to 3 passengers in a car but they have to be of age and have so many years expierence in driving.

I think thats how it is...
