    Synthetic Switch

What is the soonest one would want to switch over to synthetic. I have read the engine should be broken in first. What do you guys think? Thanks!

I now have 35,000 miles on my 2003 CE. I checked my engine compression today and it's 205psi on all 4 cylinders, I never get less than 35mpg, the car runs great and sounds great, too. My first oil change was @ 7042 miles and it was with Mobil 1 5W-30 full synth. So, I've been running on Mobil 1 for what? 28000 miles about and never had a problem and from the looks of it I don't anticipate any. I stick to factory 7500 oil changes, too. I WOULD wait the full 7500 miles to change, though. I don't know if Toyota puts any kind of additives in the engine oil to help condition the internals and break them in, but on the off-chance that they do, I'd wait out the 7500 miles to give them a chance to work.

    Late,
    Trav

i changed mine at 16000 kms (10000 miles). they screwed up at 48000 kms and put back the ordinary toyota oil. good thing i realized that before leaving and i made them drain the whole thing and pour in my mobil1. since then i do the oil change myself.

I just did mine at 21,000 miles. I had them change the tranny too. I used Mobil 1 with the filter. It is smoother running (not saying much), but shifting has definitely become easier. Maybe I just got better...

i switched to synthetic at about 35,000. just to be safe i pulled the valve cover to look for any sludge build up... there was none the engine look like it was brand new still. so i decided it was time to switch to keep it that way.

I switched from the original oil to Amsoil synthetic at 2200 miles. It was well due for a change but I noticed a more complete break-in by about 10000 miles total, when it completely stopped consuming any oil.
