While I dont know any specifics, I'd guess that the problem isnt with the cluster itself, but rather with the maximum power output on that circuit. the wiring between 98 and 01 probably changed a good bit since 98 was the first model year of the 8th gen. if you can't figure out how to change the wires around, I'd say you should look for an older tach cluster to install, maybe from 98 or 99.

swapping non tach to tach guage cluster. left blinker rear defroster problem

    hi

i am new to this forum and i have found it to be very helpful. I have read all the forums on this issue of swapping a 98 ve non tach guage cluster to a 2001 tach guage cluster. I know of one issue that comes up and that has to do with that pesky left hand turn signal blinker not working but working when you turn on the rear defroster. So far i have not found great instructions on how to fix this problem. i believe it could be as simple as switchen the wires in the back of the cluster. If anybody knows what wire need to be switched and how that would be greatly appreceated. help needed thanks

put a 98-99 i would say in you car not a 2001, then you know for sure that the wireing would be right....
