Street Racer Made to Wear Sandwich Board

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — If drivers can't read Erik Rivera's sign, they might be going too fast.

Rivera used to street race on late nights through south Orange County. Now he goes at a slower pace, wearing a sign: "Don't Street Race. I Lost My Drivers License for 3 Years."

Orange Circuit Judge John H. Adams Sr. ordered 24-year-old Rivera, of Kissimmee, to wear the sandwich-board sign as a deterrent to other racers.

Rivera was arrested in June and convicted in November of fleeing and eluding deputies and resisting law enforcement without violence.

Along with losing his license and being placed on probation for three years, he has to wear the sign where he used to race at the Waterbridge Shopping Center (search) parking lot near the Florida Mall.

Rivera will wear the 2-foot-by-3-foot sign for 50 consecutive Sundays from 1 a.m. to 2 a.m., when other young people are out racing. He must also pay for the sign and attend a special driving school.

Rivera's attorney, Aramis Donell, said her client had some initial reservations about wearing the sandwich-board sign.

"There is a level of humiliation," Donell said. "But it beats going to the Department of Corrections."

Not saying i'd ever run from the cops...but...if you've got a fast car or are in the right area, it's not "that" hard to get away from the cops.

Thats what im saying. Your not going to run too successfully on a highway, but if your smart you can easily pull of the main road, into a driveway, shut off the lights and thats it.

Well, if you can do at least 130mph, you could get away as long as the cop doesn't have one of those LS1 camaros or 5.0 mustangs and you don't run for 20miles, just for a few miles then start turning onto different roads.. The Crown Victorias top out at 110mph but it's hard to outrun a radio.. There was a guy in one of my classes who had an RSX Type S who was doing 150mph running from some cop cuz he couldn't afford another ticket.

Pulling into a driveway is a gamble, you still gotta get some serious distance between you and the cop. Finding a good twisty would work very well. None of the cop cars handle for shit.

well dood still I dk if it's ur choice wether u run away or not but it's koo man I know I wouldn't take the chance to get my license taken away and mess up my clean record that I have so far but I dk it would be FUN to try it out but the consequences are EXTREME if u get caught so hmm no hehe, I'd rather get pulled over, cooperate and just get away with less and minor offenses...

Well the corolla couldnt go too fast, but Im pretty sure I can get my 1.8t up to 130, cant go faster then that though because of the tire rating. Need to get some z rated.

Also, I heard that some police dept. (Spirit Lake, Idaho I think) was switching to civic hybrids as patrol cars to save on gas. Wish my town would do that. Any confirmation on the hybrid? I find it hard to believe.

He gets your license plate number, he'll have your address before you get out of his view. So your'e busted either way.....only reason someone should run is if the cars stolen. No way to trace it back to ya.

But you think they wont be waiting for you at your house?
