there might be a bolt loose...or something might be hitting it.

does the sound amplify at higher rpms or speed?

I had the same problem when I installed my new header. The header and exhaust sections aren't joined together properly. The C clamp holding the 2 sections together is loose. Welcome to vvti.net.

i used to have an exhasut manifold leak on a different corolla, and it sounded like ticking. and the ticking intervals got faster the faster i drove. then i purchased a header, and there was an exhasut leak around the cat. and the leak sound that i heard was metal clicking or clanging together.

i didn't mind the situation my car was in for either my exhasut manifold or header, but if you're annoyed easily by it, by all means get it fixed. i don't think there are any detriments

and one last thing, i was driving a 1989 corolla sr5 AE92chasis. the header was pacesetter, and aside from that being the best thing i did to that car, pacesetter had used crappy metal and flawed weld joints which made leaks.
