    still having trouble starting

ok, i drive a 97 rolla dx 1.8l. i was having trouble starting when it was damp out. i change the spark plugs, wires, distributor, and distributor cap. the only thing left to change is the rotor, which i will do, because it is a little rusted. before i changed the distributor, my check engine light came on, i had it checked and it was for a cam shaft position sensor, i changed the distributor and reseted the computer (efi relay pull) and it didn't go away...so i waited a little bit, like an hour and started up the car again...the check engine light is gone now.

now, it seems like when it is damp outside, i have trouble starting. the only way to make the engine turn over is to give it some gas while i turn the key.
other than that, my car is running like normal. do you think maybe it's fuel pump?

well, if you're getting spark then yeah next thing to check would be fuel injectors/pump.

    change your fuel filter first
before you change out the pump and injectors

i changed mine and it ran alot smoother

yeah, well...i changed the ignition rotor...that didn't seem to help any. i changed my fuel filter about 2 years ago and i will never do it again...it was the hardest thing i ever did in my whole life...took like 4 hours because it was rusted on there. i cleaned the injectors about 2 years ago too...they looked ok...and i changed the o-rings on them too...i guess the last thing to check is fuel pump...

First off I would have a dealer check your car for any codes. Just cuz you think you cleared it you didn't. The check engine light when it's lit is call a hard code. Now cuz the light is gone that you fixed it?? NO.. The ECM will still have the code.. called a soft code. No light , but still in the ECM. Maybe that will tell you whats wrong with your car. Just so you don't think I'm talking out my ass, I work for Honda as tech

i know what you mean about that fuel filter replacement man! i had the worst time doin it- first off- its in an impossible location-i got the top bolt off now prob..the bottom? forget about it- that biatch was so rounded off= that we couldnt grip it= and even if we did- it kept on spinning- the threads werent catching-so this is a mechanics worst nightmare- but we managed to push the car to the local shop- cost 60 dollars to replace!

ok, it's not the code i got from my cam shaft sensor, because my car was having this problem a year before the check engine light came on.

yo, 1 PHAT TOY "First off I would have a dealer check your car for any codes. Just cuz you think you cleared it you didn't. The check engine light when it's lit is call a hard code. Now cuz the light is gone that you fixed it?? NO.."
you are wrong, because, i replaced my oxygen sensor after the check engine light came on for it, then it went away...so that means, with your opinion, that it's not actually fixed, but still in memory...even after i reset the computer.
oh yeah, i did some research, the camshaft position sensor is built into the distributor. it's sorta like a magnet with a wire coming out of it...and when the shaft rotates, this piece of metal sweeps by it and it has a slight pull on it (you know, metal and magnet are attracted)...well, my old cam shaft sensor didn't have any pull on it anymore...it didn't have any magnetism left. but, a week earlier, when i took apart my old distributor, it did, i guess i was the person that messed it up that time, i guess it's never meant to touch metal. so, to answer the question, i got my car scanned at the dealership and they said it has no more check engine codes saved. so, maybe on a honda or something. i'm not trying to be a dick, just want to prove a point.

i was thinking the problem could be some type of vapor lock in the fuel deliver system. it seems that if i keep turning the key, when it doesn't want to start up, it will start after the 3rd or 4th try. so, it's like the fuel system doesn't maintain pressure or water gets in the fuel system....

all i know is that my gas milage was 22mpg city when the check engine light was on. after the light turned off and i fixed the problem and HAD MY CAR SCANNED WITH NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PROBLEMS (after i fixed the problem of course)
now i get 29mpg in the city. that seems like a pretty big difference for me...
