stereo shuts off after a few minutes

my stereo always ran really hot ever since i got it. it got so hot that the volume knob(which is metal) got pretty warm to the touch. now it starts playing and when it heats up the sound cuts out but the stereo is still on. I have a best buy generic stereo. any ideas?

*edit* and i bought a stereo harness with it and hooked it up correctly

could try to modify it to have a fan to cool it or something. sounds like it's just a poorly made stereo if it's best buy brand

i've seen a headunit over heat once cause it was a p.o.s headunit. Anything thats anywhere clsoe being half decent will never overheat and will sound alot better
