    spring rates

so i'm getting ksport kontrol first week next month.

i believe default spring rates are 7kg front / 6kg rear
but can get custom +- 2kg.

i live in a very bumpy area (nyc) and was wondering what I should go with.

do you think 5kg/4kg will be too soft?
i was thinking of doing 6/4 or 6/5. does anyone see anything wrong with those spring rates, specific to the 8th gen?

btw how much does it normally cost to install the coilover and how much would they charge for me for each visit of wanting to change the height, etc?

It's +/- 2kg/mm without having to revalve the shock. That's the safe ratio for all coilover shocks. go over or under too much and the suspension would be over or under dampened.

The stock spring rates for the Ksports are 7 kg front and 5 kg rear. You can actually get more than just -+2 kg. jcrwzr is running 13 and 11 kg on his Ksports. The 7 and 5 kg ratios are well balanced imo. I personally wouldn't change the rates. Install it yourself. It's literally a bolt on. Undo the strut mounts, raise the car up, pull the old units, slide in the new units, and bolt everything up. There are no springs to compress and no extra parts to install. Have you had experience working on your car before? It's probably a 2/5 for easiness. You shouldn't have to bring your car in to a shop every time you want to raise or lower it. Do it yourself. The only time you should bring it in is after you've adjusted the height and need an alignment.

i'm actually 15kg front and 13kg rear... i love it! you get the looks from other tuners and when your car jiggles or bobbles it shows you're serious, unfortunately my car isn't fast... no races for me... but that rock hard ride look is worth it! but don't worry, you'll get the hard stiff ride look with the 7kg/5kg spring rates. you can ride with a softer spring rate if you want. but once the 7kg/5kgs settle you'll be fine. just make sure you lower your car using the lower mount, not the threaded collars.

one of the main reasons for getting this coilover set is because of my rubbing issue.
ever since i had the subwoofer in my trunk, ive been rubbing.
as you can see, i thought the coilspacers help but it didnt. you see how close the tire is to the strut base for the spring?
im trying to eliminate that by going coilover since it doesnt have that spring base like it does with the spring + strut setup right?

im sure its rubbing there. ive had those same tires for almost a year now and its never rubbed until i put the subwoofer.
i see little scratches from my tires on the bottom of the spring seat and its coming from the tires.

just for the record i have 45 offset wheels 195/55/15

I think you're rubbing fenders. Feel up under the fender well and run your had across the lip. I bet you'll get a hand full of burnt rubber.

Have you done any other suspension mods to your car? also how much does the sub weigh? Also if you have time take a picture of the whole side of the car where its rubbing. I know how high your car should be with those struts since that and tokico is the most popular. and lastly, take a picture of the shock and tire from the bottom facing up. ( if you can).

I know you seem positive its rubbing on your spring or shocks or something and personally, i've never really heard of that before. I would normally see the tire hitting or rubbing the fender liner or the actual fender. I'm just really curious as to why you're experiencing this. So far I am guessing maybe your kyb's are dying on you.

I'm running KYB GR2's as well and I don't rub on the spring seat. I'm lowered more than 3 inches too. I rub the fenders though.

well i got rear sway bars from whiteline. the subwoofer itself weighs 24lbs and the box is at least 10 or 15 lbs.. plus ive got a custom mdf board (where the amplifier is hooked up to, the backwall of the trunk, in the middle) which probably weighs 5-8 lbs and the 5 channel amplifier which is kinda hefty is probably 5-7lbs i would say.

    I have S.tech+KYB on my 01.
I tried to put 4 wheels+tires (around 30lbsX4=120lbs) at the trunk many times, but no rubbing for me at all.
    I'm running 45offset 195/50/15 though.
How could you hit that part? Isn't the distance between the wheel and the strut base is fixed?

i've tried to see what else could be rubbing because your struts will not be rubbing unless something is loose.
That is stock and as you can see, its the same as yours.

Unless this area is loose somewhere or something, there will be no rubbing.

The only thing I can think of is if your wheel or hub or something is bent or something and your tire's offset is off.
if the offset is off due to something being bent, it could rub on the strut. it happened to me when i went offroad and ran over a huge rock.

Take more pictures and maybe we can figure out what is happening to your car. :)

There's no indication of rubbing on here. DrunkSaru is right. It has to be something else.

I think you could haggle them to lower the price because it's less complicated then installing lowering springs.

Or if you could DIY. That will save you $200!:) Hehe. Sayang kung nandito ka tapos na yan satin sa isang oras.

ksport were a pain to install because of the retarded brake line and sway bar brackets. Same with adjusting the height.. you'd have to unbol the entire assembly from the hub and turn the lower mount. I sware those were the biggest PITA coilovers I ever dealt with. It's not hard just frustrating and time consuming.
