    Splashguards gone...effects on engine/tranny

my front splashguards(black plastic under fender) are completely gone after rubbing so much on my tires. Winter passed and i popped open my hood and my engine cover, strut bar, and lines were all dirty from the rain on the road. How bad is this on my engine and tranny?

shouldnt hurt the engine or tranny at all. Unless theres like a 1 inch thick layer of mud caked on then i wouldnt worry too much. The only two things that could cause a problem is if dirt somehow got into the engine, which i dont see how that could hapen. Or if you had so much dirt covering the engine and tranny that they couldnt disapate heat and they would run hotter then they should. If i were you i would take the car to the car wash and hose the engine down. If you have a CAI you might want to tie a plastic bag arround the filter to keep it dry, but hopefully your not running a CAI with no splash gaurds, then just hose the engine down and clean it up. Dont have to worry about it getting wet, ive already hosed mine off many times at the car wash and with the garden hose.

umm.. if i were you i would change rims and buy new mug gaurd, i wouldn't want my engine all dirty, it'll make ur intake suck in dirty air... dirty air goes into engine.. no good

thats what an AIR FILTER is for... But if i had a CAI or short ram i would deffinately not like that situation, and i would get some splash gaurds very soon.

if nothing else, it will be a b!tch to keep the engine clean. (or dont you guys clean the whole engine compartment as part of your car wash routine?)

You don't want to be put a plastic bag around your filter. It'll try to suck that up and collapse the filter causing damage. Unless the vinyl is well vintilated with holes, I wouldn't do that. K&N makes a cover to protect the filter, not an ordinary plastic bag.

I believe he was talking about the Splash Guards not the Mud Guards. The Splash Gaurds are right infront of your front tires, they connect to your bumper to make a guard against any dirt or water splash that can happen.

Fender liners... the plastic that shrouds the wheel/tires from the engine bay.

I dont mean to drive arround with a plastic bag on your filter, that would obviously be retarded. I just ment that when you wash your engine bay you might want to tie a bag arround your filter to keep from soaking it, and then take it off when your done washing. I know it donst hurt anything to just get the filter wet, but it would probably be bad over time because it would rinse all the oil off the filter and then it wouldnt filter worth a damn.
