Speed limiter - not a joke after all...

I found out today that the speed limiter actually does exist on my car. And here I was thinking it was just a big joke.

    :?

    I laughed
It was interesting to say the least. Some Mitsu Eclipse decided he'd try to leave me - without success, might I add...

You laughed? Bouncing off the limiter is not a good thing.

It doesn't hurt anything, all it does is kill one of the cylinders (randomly I think, or in order so it's not just one that's dead) so that you slow down to 110 or so and then it goes back up to it again...........

I'm not sure the Canadian version has a speed limiter.. I got it past 180km/h and the needle was almost touching the black plastic of the bezel.
I'll try it again sometime. Is it very noticable when the limiter kicks in?

It should have been at 117MPH (not sure in KPH) and yeah, it slows the car down even at full-throttle, you can't miss it.

Well, I wasn't @ redline/rev limiter. I was in 4th gear and was somewhere around 5000rpms. I didn't keep the pedal to the floor, either. The engine kind of just stopped and I immediately let off the gas. I figured that was about enough fun for one night and right good and stupid of me to do it in the first place. Nothing safe about that, know what I mean?

But it was still fun

Yeah, you hit it alright, that's the same RPM's mine is at when I hit it.

    Sucks, doesn't it?

    Well, 100km = a tad more than 60mi
    so 117mi = a little bit less than 200km

According to another post on this forum that I saw it'll kick in at 195km/h...

I know for sure the Canadian version has a rev limiter, I've hit it once or twice :p...I haven't gotten to the speed limiter though, seeing as most of my driving is daytime (or with people - I don't drive *too* crazy with people) , fastest I've gone in mine is 175 with no problems...

Iv seen that Speed Unilmiter before and thought it would work, but if you click to select modle, it only has 4-Runner, Tacoma, Tundra, and T-100. So maybe it wont work. Unless they have another one for cars.

Canadian versions do have the speed limiter... The needle bottoms out on the bulge at 185 Km/h, then tops out at 190 Km/h (118 MPH) to match the tires' T speed rating.

go with the Apexi Rev/Speed meter

I bought an Apexi Rev/Speed Meter for my ride, got the ECU layout from Toyota and hooked it in. It cuts the Speed or the Rev or both if u want.... good purchase..
