    93-97's have 4A/7A-FE, so stick with A-series swaps. I.E. 4AGE or 4AGZE.

    Speaking of good engines....

Upon reading the replies in the what engine is good for a toyota corolla 96 I had a question. A couple, actually.

1: Does the 96-97 gen 4a and 7a-fe have a vvt-like system? If so, what is it called?

2: How expensive would it be to swap in a vvti system engine? Like a 1zz-fe and so on? More specifically, would parts would be needed?

    ^^ that is partly true..
If your looking for something remotely close to V-tec - go with the 2zz-fe with vvtL-i (Intelegent Variable Valve Timing and Lift, as opposed to the Variable Valve Timing on the Silvertop 20v and Intelegent version on the Blacktop and 1zz). the variable lift on the 2zz is designed for performance - vvt and vvt-i is designed mostly for economy.

The only downside is that the 2zz is VERY expensive to drop into the Gen8 (93-97) rollas... I looked into this option myself.

Actually.... My ultimate wet dream would be to swap in a 2.4 2AZ-FE from the Camry (and now tC). Which is why I was asking about vvti and such.

Unfortunatly.... It's looking more and more like new car time. I was just about to replace the cracked radiator when I found out my front struts AND my alternator are going out and need replacement also.

Anyway, what do you think about the 2AZ-FE swap?? What would I need and how would I go about it (hypothetically speaking)?

Why would you want to swap in that engine? For that you might as well swap in the 3S-GTE. I wouldn't bother with the 2AZ-FE IMO. The damn "F" head is crap. Eww, "F" head.

Here's a dyno sheet of the engine. Notice how power begins to drop at the higher rpm's:

I always wondered about that. If let's say for example Toyota would reintroduce the AE86 (Which Toyota will never do), you think the 2ZZ-GE would be a good engine for it?

thats a smaller powerband than the corolla. And I know of one person here that had 125 hp to the wheels with just intake and exhaust.
