    Spark plug question

if you upgrade/change your plug...what are the benefits? cons?

I also just read something about cold spark plugs ( http://TRDforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=940 )...what do you mean by cold? are they really colder than any other s. plug?

    thanks!

The difference in what makes a plug colder or hotter is in the spark plug ability to shed heat. A colder plugs actually dissipates heat from the firing tip faster than a hotter plug. This helps reduces the tendancy of preignition in some cases - which leads to detonation. That is why when running NOS or boosted engines, they generally recommend colder plugs - less likely to detonate and possibly damage the engine.

Sometimes - if you engine is running fine, doesn;t use oil, etc - but pings under load or you might just have a case of poor gas in your area - a one step colder plug may help. Keep in mind that most cases - mostly stock engine, a colder plug will tend to foul more easily at idle - since it runs cooler.

It'll work alright, but there's not really any reason to. :)

Usually better to run colder plugs that hotter plugs in engines. Don't count on running a colder plug to make more power - it is just safer in some instances (boosted and NOS apps). You won't hurt anything running colder plugs - you just run the risk of plug fouling at idle and low speed driving (traffic / city).
