Side airbag conversion in a nutshell So I was researching the side airbag conversion to see what was needed and how involved it was. Here are my findings. The side airbags are wired below the seat to the airbag assembly mounted inside the seats as you can see here. Here is a view from the front of the side airbag. For someone to do a conversion, they would have to get these airbag sensors on both sides of the car located here to detect a side impact: And then wire these sensors into the airbag ECU by the gas pedal to the side airbags. That's not so complicated, but you also need welding skills to weld in a new mount on your seats. This is a standard front car seat without side airbags. Notice that there is no side airbag mount. This is a car seat from a car with side airbags. Notice that mount that is welded. If you can do all of these things then you have side airbags.
