Should the blame really go on MySpace?!

    http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/internet/01/18/myspace.lawsuit.ap/index.html

Family's are suing MySpace because their daughters were raped by adults they met on MySpace.

Is it really MySpace's fault? I mean if my kid was on a computer, I'd make sure I'd monitor what they do. And as long as they live under my roof, I'd be on top of where the kid is going and with who. These kids could of easily met these adults other ways besides MySpace. So why pin MySpace for it?

Parents have to be partially blamed here, IMO.

I wouldn't say partially blame the parents... I'd say completely blame the parents!

Kids were asking for it by not having enough common sense and parents were asking for it by not teaching their children and evaluating their judgment.

the parents want to put the blame on myspace for their lack of parenting. most parents these days are not parents. it is the parents job to monitor everything they do, from homework, tv, computer use, etc.

Total unjustified to sue MySpace for something like this. I heartily agree that this is 100% parenting issue. Just because it is technology - does it mean it should be any different than any other medium to contact people? Common sense here - I'm pretty sure this will get thrown out.

Im sure that this will be settled out of court....but the parents WILL get something.

Myspace shouldve started from the beginning with their security measures......its good that they have finally gotten on the ball in regards to that though.

If this goes to a trial court, there is no way that a jury will approve of a defense team trying to make some teen girls look bad.
Yeah, there is some blame to be put on the parents here, but ya cant regulate 100% of what your kids do. They couldve been using public computers....lying about where theyre going, etc.

NEWS FLASH TO ALL THE PARENTS! RAISE YOUR KIDS RIGHT! I swear all the parents now want the gonverment and schools to raise there kids, if they would pay a little more attention on who there kids are talking to maybe they wouldn't find and meet these guys.
:hide: <--- This is what this generation of parents do when it comes to parenting.

I 2nd that motion Ryno, I mean dude wtf do parents expect the system to do all their work for them? ain't that a B man. Myspace won't have any responsability on this type of situations and well it's not other people's fault that maybe those chicks posted some sexy pictures and what not to lurk attention so HEY THERE U GO that's the attention u were looking for..... didn't it maybe occur to the dumb girls that there's crazy ass people out there and that provoking brings consequences? ehhh obviously not, so hell no I blame it on the parents 100%

I second Damnir lol. I agree with the sexy picture and provotive clothing. In todays soceity it is getting hard to tell the under age girls from young adult girls. They are all wearing the same tight shirt and short skirts. Not that it is right for these guys to do this, but the girls are basicly letting them in (no pun atteneded).

I mean you just can't pretend to provoke someone (sex predators in this case) and expect nothing to happen, it's the internet for the love of Christ, sex predators know damn well what young girls like to hear and when gameday comes down BOOM it's over, they hit it and well life is a bitch, u should've kept ur mouth shut, take nice, decent pics and just enjoy myspace innocently

again though, that's the PARENTS FAULT 100%

i see girls on there that are dressed with barely any clothing on --- and they don't expect that SOMEONE would look? that's the whole point of them dressing slutty. they're looking for attention and obviously their parents aren't paying enough. if my daughter wanted a myspace account, thats fine, but i would have access to it and see everything she put on there... PERIOD. It's not being nosy, its protecting her despite whatever arguments she may give me. regardless, if i found my daughter posted up a picture that had her dressed in a sexy or otherwise enticing manner, myspace would be gone and computer privledges would be seriously revoked. END OF STORY. I'm sick of all these parents whining and complaining when they are a huge part of the problem as well.

Lol. That isn't the point, parents now want everyone else to raise there kids until they do it wrong. Then all the parents want to sue for "damages". It is like they do this so they cannot take the blame when the kid f**ks up, but they are more then willing to sue for money.

its all about the money. the parents are clearly goofy fucking idiots... its clearly the next step in their agenda of shitty parenting. blame someone else for their shortcomings to try and clear their names while at the same time making a profit. if a kid rolls his ankle while running or playing sports, do you sue nike? when do parents become responsible for their waste of space fucking kids?

Yeah not myspace's problem. Parents fault. Also the Kids made Stupid damn decisions. Who the fuck meets people over the internet to hook up? Is there no gut feeling talling them to be careful?? I'm gonna sounds like a real ass here, but its also the kids' fault. They need to know not to meet strangers. Duh. They should also not be hiding where they are going from tehir parents. Duh. And damn sure should not be flirting online with people they do not know. Duh.

Parents should talk to their kids often about their activiites. Duh. They should be more involved with who their friends are. Duh. They should warn them about sexual predators over the internet!! DUH!!

Again I say, NOT myspace's problem.

If you kid gets raped by someone on Myspace it is because they are retarded and should not even be allowed to use the computer, and if they are retarded it's because as a parent you taught them to be retarded. I'm getting sick of seeing this shit.

yes better opportunity and don't get me wrong like I have things that I could've never thought of having back in my country and stuff man but just the whole part of parents not raising kids or raising them wrong is a big big thing here in this country and well I'm just glad I wasn't a part of it that's all.

well thank your parents... not your country. because everyday millions of parents here in the US present proper moral guidlines and practice hands on, A+ parenting with their children. i personally am a product of active parents who decided it was important to have an indepth role in my upbringing. so all in all i agree with you and disagree at the same time. its really on a case by case basis. these parents suing myspace for their shortcomings is a clear example of the worst extreme in poor parenting, and also a lack of ability to take responsibility for their childrens actions.

lets not forget the sick fucks who think its cool to rape little girls either... id love to hear about their past in regards to parenting and how they were raised. i bet that most likely they were physically abused and molested.
