Short Ram Intake, AEM or K&N?

I want to buy a short ram intake for my 2003 corolla, after looking in the web I have two options: AEM (22-469) or K&N Typhoon (69-8600). Has someone tried one? Does they really give the hp advertised: 7.4 hp and 7.5 hp at the wheels for AEM & K&N respectively

i would not be surprised at peak horsepower gains against the stock air box and with colder air going into the motor. i realize this is a "short ram" but cold air comes into the engine bay and leads into the intake filter and this is what i am talking about.

i think the AEM is a little better quality and would recommend it based on what i have seen. good luck with your purchase if you decide to get one.

CAI was my first option but AEM says a gain of 1.1 hp over short ram, I don't think it worth $50 bucks over short ram... K&N doesn't have at the moment CAI for my corolla

Another doubt: does SR or CAI improve also fuel consumption?

thats a gain on the dyno, not in real world situations. you compare a sri vs cai for intake temp coming in the cai with have a much cool temp producing power that a dyno wont see when driving.

It CAN improve fuel consumption if you keep your foot out of it or by virtue of leaning the mixture out. The 1ZZ-FE tolerates lean detonation pretty well, I'd have to say.
