    Short block...long block??

I know this is a dumb question, but...
What is the difference between a Short block and a long block??
Just a simple answer is all i would like...I have just been stumped at this for a while.

A short block is the bottom half of the engine. The block, crank, pistons, ect.

A long block is the short block plus the head.

and just for the record..... when an engine company (or parts store) says longblock, it is just from oilpan to valve cover.... doesn't include brackets (unless it is part of the cast), alternator/starter/distributor/electronics/manifolds/injectors/rail etc.....
