saturn ION is also supercharged. If they make a supercharger for corolla, take 170 and add 30% for supercharger: 170 + 51 = 221hp. $17k for corolla XRS + $3k supercharger = reliable car for same bucks. I HATE SATURNS!!

your math is about 1-2K off for the XRS. plus the Saturn has 73 more ft-lb of torque more than the XRS, tha'ts a lot of grunt to make up even with a s/c xrs.

man I dk I would rather buy the XRS because Saturn are junk......no offense<<<or how ever u spell it lol>>>> to anyone out there but damn Toyota boy is got a point. and even though it doesn't have as much power as the Saturn but at least Toyota made the effort to power it up and with the 2ZZ there's more to do with this engine than with the 1ZZ....I think but I guess Vortex could prove me wrong lol

besides the SRT-4 is about 2K over the XRS. So for those wanting to go fast cheap, that 2K will get them a heck of a lot more power and potential than the XRS.

The ion redline was on Auto Week last night it said the 0-60 was 6.3 that is like a second faster than the XRS. And i read taht the srt-4 is like a 5.8.

I want power and reliablity, but reliability is the most important. 350Z is a nice car, but nissans in general only rank like 3 or 4 according to JD power. If you look up the corolla, it's like full stars in quality.. It friggen outranks the camry! When I saw the commercial for that ION, I laughed so hard. I never found saturns to even be good looking, much less roomy, and they're even sadder to be trying to compete with other import tuners. It's about as lame as taking a griswold family truckster and tricking it out.

    I'll take the XRS.

    XRS > Ion in reliability.

IMO, I think the tC S/C should be able to compete well against the Ion.

toyota is late in the game. almost every car make has 1+ cars that can compete, and beat the xrs in power, handling, and price

the ION is still 300+ lbs lighter than the tC.

no question that reliability will be better on the XRS than of the Saturn. But isn't the whole point of the XRS performance (if not then why the 2zz)?? and compared to a SATURN, it doesn't even match up!!! There is something seriously wrong with that.

The Corolla XRS is really rather disappointing when you compare it to the competition. It's like they didn't even try.

Then again, I'm not a big fan of these "enhanced" econoboxes that come pre-riced from the factory (like the SRT-4, Civic Si, Ion Redline, etc.). I know they're trying to increase their share of the "tuner" market, but most of those folks are going to go aftermarket anyway.

What I REALLY would like to see from Toyota is something like the XRS but with more torque (please!), supercharged or turbocharged maybe, and AWD... something that could compete against the WRX. Bigger brakes and stiffer springs would also be a plus, as the XRS doesn't seem to be any different from a CE in those areas. I know they could've done this with only slightly altered parts from the Matrix/Celica/MR2.

Bu instead, as usual, Toyota puts out the blandest of the bunch.

Ah well... I got my Corolla because I wanted bland (and thrifty), so it works out.

ive read that the gearing in the ION Redline sucks, you hit the traps in 5th gear and that you hit 60mph in 3rd. go Toyota! ive also heard that the curb weight for a Rolla XRS isnt too far off from the Matrix XRS.. true or nay?

With the release of the XRS, this could open up more eyes from those in the aftermarket and help us get more parts fabricated...us 03+ at least...

i can't diss a car that can handle a lot of power.

I have to add my two cents in on this one.

I've had my eye on the Redline for quite sometime. I think I even mentioned it in a thread before the reconstruction. The standard Ecotech engine with the Ion Quade Coupe and the supercharged model in the Redline is a powerful little engine. You'll also be able to see that same engine in the Chevy Cobolt late in the year or early next year.

IMO Toyota killed the Corolla line in the US when they stopped making two door cars. As per example, look up the stats for a Euro T-Sport Corolla and then we'll talk.

Point being, the Redline would whoop the XRS' ass because we get wheeny Corollas here. As someone pointed out earlier, Toyota is late in the game.

    Go team.

You did not get it :D Ofcourse, I know Prizms were to Corollas what Vibe is to Matrix, but officially it has no link with Toyota. It is a GM car and everything regarding the car is handled by GM without any involvement on Toyota's part. Therefore, brainwashing cannot be ruled out ( Just joking!) :)

    er.

but they have the same motor! :p

and yes i know i'm being redundant...i just don't see why someone can be obsessed with a company just because they own a car that's kindof sortof made by them.

    *must have classic corolla*

    *ahem*
    now what was that again?

Instead they should've just brought over the 3S-GTE. Only engine capable of competing with the STi and Evo.

The Saturn Redline beats the pants off the XRS, hands down. 20K$ for a car that makes 197 wheel hp and 170 wheel torque (from car and driver, GM underrated it)...and makes 15s..even with a transmission that cuts out when the supercharger is STILL making more boost and power (hopefully this will be fixed). Whoever said that the XRS supercharger will make 30% more horsepower is on crack, TRD's stuff is usually good for 30-40...for 3000$..plus installation, then you still have no torque. The problem with Toyota's cars is that no one wants to touch the motors because they are too sensitive...the 2ZZ timing get's all screwed up with the addition of bolt ons, much less boost. You would think that there would be some major power gains (60-70%) from a forced induction system as expensive as the TRD stuff. Saturn is introducing a system for the Ion that brings the power to 225 hp from 140, for example, for around the same price. I agree that Saturns aren't as reliable, but come on, you just can't throw that out there and say the car is crap. Has anyone owned both a redline and a XRS for an extended amount of time?

But these cars are not really in the same class...A better comparison would be it vs the Nissan SE-R Spec...which comes with a 6spd like the XRS, but also a LSD and torque to match it's horsepower...something that the 2ZZ simply can't do. Toyota's motors simply make crap for torque, that's all there is to it. I like the look of the tC because it actually makes decent torque numbers. But anyways, it looks like toyota is simply a day too late, a dollar too short with the release of the XRS. You can already buy a better car that has been produced already, meaning that the bugs (and there are always bugs)are going to be fixed.

That's why I love the SRT-4. It has already had a tremendous year with few problems, now Dodge made it a little more expensive, but gave the consumer 15 hp as well as a LSD for 1000$ more, it's beautiful.

Best buy here is the SRT-4. Undeniable power and aftermarket support from Mopar as well as other tuning companies, plus a warranty It can get into the 13s...come on. Under 6 second 0-60.

I seriously can't wait till the Cobalt comes out. I'm excited to see if they will couple the 2.4L motor (170hp NA) with a turbo for crazy power in the SS version. I've always wanted a coupe...

Open your eyes toyota lovers...GM wasn't joking when they said an American Revolution. I am expecting to see even the Mazdaspeed Miata blown out of the water by the new convertibles chrysler/saturn are putting out. 240 hp beasts....
