This is the tC's competition.. if you added the TRD supercharger to the tC .. thats another $4k+ .. which would make it around the same price as the Cobalt SS...

This is for the folk who dont like imports and want the american version of the tC

haha cobalt? Thats the funniest name i've ever heard for a car. In my opinion...this cobalt is a piece of shit. Just look at it. It looks like chevy went to a garage sale at some ricers garage and put that thing together in the shop haha. Its freakin butt ugly. It looks like a geo metro, transformed into a fake skyline lol...OMG chevy needs to hire some people who really understands the import scene that can actually build a decent looking car! Just my two cents. What do u think?

The cavalier is old, and Chevy wants to replace it, and try to grab a share of the import tuning crowd.

The base model sucks, I think it's a 1.8L 140HP engine on a 2800 lb. frame, but the SS = fast. This is probably meant to try and challenge the SRT-4 Neon, Evo, etc.

The tailights remind me of a Skyline (in a weird, quirky sorta way) and the spoiler is very similar to the TRD spoiler for the Celica.

I think the comparison with the tC depends on what your looking for. Most Scion buyers aren't looking for a fast car, most SS buyers won't care too much about reliability. You can't really compare the two though because they're in seperate categories.

yep- chevy's tryin to steal the SRT-4 kids out there... both are running at 20-22k msrp out there; i would go w/ the SRT though, higher power numbers, and its got a turbo-

Yea I think Chevy needs stick to making ugly, slow and unreliable cars. Leave the real cars up to Toyota, Honda and Nissan. I dont care how much horsepower a Chevy can make I would still never buy one. The other day I had the misfortune of being a passenger inside a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. What a pile of crap this thing is...even worse build quality than the previous generation.

well, lets see...my ex's 88 Cavalier Z24 is still cranking out some crazy HP for a car that age and in that price bracket...and it's got over 200k miles.

my cav had over 200k miles and was still going strong(and eating up 4cylinder cars) before it was stolen.

    don't diss the company's lower-end models completely ;)

you took the words from me...that, and i'm sick of defending the car by myself.

tha's the same thing as the opel astra in the uk. The model over there has a turbo and they use them in rally events, of course hopped up a bit.

The car IS a good car. The car IS the best "cavalier" they've made so far. The car IS their fastest stock 4cyl yet. The IS going to sell well. IT does look a hecka lot better then the Neon SRT-4.

Isn't the cobalt the commercial I saw where a vette is sitting at a red light, and the cobalt bumps in the rear and it spins around? Cobalt looks like a neon with skyline tail-lights, doesn't compare to scion. More HP, but I don't like the way it looks. also, scion has the full sunroof, and the dash with the hidden radio panel is cool too. I have nothing against any car company, but I know I've had problems with chevy's.. Every car company has it's good cars, but I'm just a toyota lover.

i disagree...i prefer the V6 Z24s they had in the early 90's...though this(built on the Delta platform, so it doesn't even share a base with the Cav) car is probably one of the best offerings GM has made to the younger market.

eh...i'm just a hardcore supporter of the second gen j-bodies, and only the V6s from that generation. the third gens sucked...i'm glad they're killing them, even if they DO have an ecotec in them now.

Fastest stock 4cyl? i dont know about that mate... the question is: can it reach 60mph under 6 seconds.. the SRT is rated 5.8seconds... and i believe that both of the SRT and the Cobalt look sexy.. but yeah- cobalt is a stupid name!

The v6 z24's were nice cars but they fell apart all to easily. Besides they were v6's and box cars. Not 4cyl, sleek cars. I do agree about the younger market appeal. Vette is for old fogey's looking to go fast, this is something for the tc, srt-4, redline market.

    meh.

fall apart? i beg to differ...my Z was completely intact when i bought it :)

i do have to agree about the boxiness, though some folks 'round here like that sort of thing...although i prefer the sound of a V6 over a little 4banger. they just SOUND mean.
