SAS Brand NOS 8" Tube Subwoofer

Hey guys. I recently got a 8" tube subwoofer by bazooka that looks like a nos bottle..you've probably seen it before at good guys or whatever but I got a pretty good deal on it. However, I don't know if it is a clean sub or what because I haven't gotten a chance to hear them yet. Does anyone have these subs or know anyone that does? How do they like them and what amp goes best? I know the max is 300W but I don't want to blow it...or my money

IMO SAS 'Bazooka' Subs are not clean by any chance but they can give a pretty good thump for the size & your money. In general any tube oriented sub is gonna be generated more towards the SPL side of things instead of the 'sq' factor. Good Luck

I've heard a couple of tube woofers, and i honestly thought that it sounded a little muddy for my tastes. Of coarse the ones i heard were manuafactured by that garbage company "thump".

You should try them out for bit, and if you are not really satisfied, return it for a regular 10" or 12" sub, and make your own box.

    Sometimes looks aren't everything, right?

    Thanks!

OH I get it now...thanks a lot everyone. Yeah..I didn't plan on getting this bazooka sub, it was just that my friend had it in his house so he sold me it for practically nothing. The sub is still brand new and he hasn't even heard it himself. I'm just a poor college student so I haven't saved up the $800 yet to get myself a decent 10" sub with a nice amp. Thanks for all the audio advice though guys. I have another question I'm gonna be posting today in the defects section so check it out if you want.

    you don't need $800.

I installed a decent system for my friend around $600, including Pioneer MP3 deck, 600watts JBL mono amp, and 2 Infinity reference series subs.

    what should i do?

Wow. $600 is a really good price, did you hook him up? I went to good guys and I think they're just BSing with me cuz they said for just one 10" eclipse sub that comes with
the custom enclosure, it's 279 plus a $300 eclipse amp and after wiring and install it would be 800. I already have my alpine cd/mp3 deck so I'm fine off that..just need good amp and sub...any suggestions? I especially don't really know which amps are good and all too. I just want a good amp for a 10" sub.

Amplifier: JBL BP-600.1 Mono Amp. About $200

Sub: Eclipse, Boston Acoustic Pro, Infinity Kappa Perfect .... etc ..... About $200 or more? The price varies.

Sub Enclosure: The regualr one cost about $40

    Amp installation kit: $35

Installation fee: Free if you do it yourself.

Nice setup there. Thanks for pricing everything for me too. I was wondering how many watts that JBL amp was and what's the max output. Tax in SF is a pain, it's usually around an extra $40 or so. I'd love to do installation myself but I don't know how to and I don't want to break anything in my car while trying...

Hey guys. I got my sub installed today with the amp and it sounds alright. From inside the car it's hella extra bass and it echoes pretty nicely. However, from outside you can't really hear it that much because it sounds muffled by the trunk. It's actually not bad for an 8" woofer but I wish it could be more audible from outside. The only advantage of having the sound be mostly inside the car is that the back of my car is not rattling really and rattling from outside is almost inaudible. You guys were dead right about SQ and loudness. Now to just get some aspirin for my headaches... :?
