lexus and toyota are offshoots of the same company, but GM and toyota have a partnership.

have you ever noticed how similar the Chevy/Geo Prizm looks JUST like a corolla? or the Vibe looks like a Matrix? they're the same vehicles.

as a sidenote - GM has their fingers in everything, it seems...they've got a partnership with Toyota, Daewoo(where else did the Aveo come from?), and Saab for either cars or motors. go GM...now all they've got to do is boost their quality and reliability a little more, and they'd be right up there with Toyota in my mind.

on top of that, they have the same trannies...hell, the vibe gt has the 2zz. even the last incarnation of Prizm had the 1zz.

    the only differences are cosmetic.

the vibes comes from the exact same assembly line as the crapola, every 3rd car that pass through the line in the nummi plant is a vibe. However the corolla wagon.. ahem, matrix is assembled up at washington (or was it canada, iono). Speaking of which corollas arn't that great looking either.
