    S/C self install...

I ordered my supercharger the other day and cant wait. Im installing it myself and wanted to know if anyone wanted me to take note to anything specific? It looks fairly easy and my friend is a mechanical genious. I'll take pics of the whole install for those who might want it.

The TRD unit is self-lubricated right? Do the directions call for tapping the oil pan?

No its self lubricated... needs to be changed every 200,000 miles.

I ordered it from Ted Roach, cheapest price I could find. Got the link from Matrix Owners.com. $2450

    ted's email: troach@sterlingmccalltoyota.com
    website to order: www.toyotaautoparts.com

Just at first to make sure I did it right  , then I'm going to try out the intake. I promise you all I'll have it DYNO'd with the stock airbox and then with the AEM short ram so we can get some solid numbers with that intake on.

You're gonna need to get some water/ethanol injection going if ur putting on an intake. You might wear out the catalytic converters early without it.

hey wouldnt it be better to put in an intercooler for the S/C? the thing is i have a shop here who created turbonetics, and they do turbos for any car you want. custom setups they posted a price of around 7000$ but the guy said he would do mines for around 3000$ or so installed. thats with a turbonetics t3/t4 turbo, greddy or hks BOV, custom intercooler, custom mandrel bent piping for intercooler, and i forgot what else it comes with. i think they can do a custom mandrel bent intercooler if i got a supercharger if it is possible to intercool

You cannot use an intercooler with the TRD SC. The SC uses a fifth fuel injector to help cool the intake charge.

Everything that I've heard is that the TRD s/c couldnt be inter/aftercooled... Its a roots style blower and it cant be done, its got some kind of cooler inside it or something?

Also you can get a better 5th injector controler to help it out, if you need it. from split-second... I think it called the AIC1

theres nothing specific about a roots blower that prevents aftercooling of any sort, it the integral intake manifold/ blower mount bracket that prevents this on the TRD unit.

you would need to find a way to re mount the S/C, shorten the output runners, add in a set of "to" and "from" runners, plumb in an aftercooler (air/air, or air/water, or something even more complicated) and re route back into the head.

if the blower just had a simple say 21/2" intake and output that we could adapt a bit of intercooler piping onto, everyone with a S/C would be doing it, but sadly the TRD unit isnt designed that way.

its an elegant one piece design, just dosnt lend itself to aftercooling.

    Well said!

Besides, it is much cheaper and easier to add water injection, which serves the same purpose.

If someone has a lot of $$$ to blow and is willing to have their SC hacked to pieces, it would be interesting to see how Toysports plans on doing it.

The only hard part of the install that I've seen from MO people doing it is the crank bolt is kinda hard to get off. Everything else is fairly straight forward but if you have any problems, try PMing rtrac1 on MO, he's done 2 S/C installs already and might do his 3rd here later in the summer
