Running little "lean" after trd cai??

Its been about a month since I installed my TRD cai and my check engine light started coming on since yesterday. I checked all my fluids, checked all the connections and I wasn't able to find anything that would cause this. I took it to my dealership this morning and they weren't able to find anything either. They told me that my car is running a little lean possibly because of my intake. All they did is reset the code and told me to book an appointment with them the next time it happens. I've been running with the fuel light on constantly these days because I never seem to have any change on me and high gas prices. Could that cause a problem? I'm worried that it might be caused by me over oiling my last TRD drop in filter. But yea, has anybody else had their CEL come on after their cai install?

I have, tiwce as well as many others. I had TRD actually check it out and it was fine as well. I just pulled the neg terminal of the battery to reset the ECU. It has come on one other time since, but that was when my car was at a dealer getting fixed so it was their problem.

My CEL came on too a little while after installing the TRD CAI. I kept resetting the computer but it would keep giving me the CEL again the next day or even a few hours later. I finally got sick of resetting the comp. so i just drove arround with the CEL on for 4 or 5 days and it went away on its own, every once in awhile it would come back for a day but then go back off by its self. But just lately its been comming back on and staying on for a while. It seems like it will usually come on when the car idles for a while, like if you drive arround then stop and the car idles for like 5-10 mins it will come on then go off like 4 days later maybe. I dont think its really anything to worry about thou, unless the car is acting wierd or sounding wierd.

    TRD CAI

I installed my TRD CAI and a wekk later the "Check Engine" light came on. I took the negative battery cable off for a few minutes and when I put it back on light was gone. This seems to be a common problem based on the posts here, does anyone have an idea how to correct this inconveince?

    TRD install

I installed it myself, took couple hours. I had to go to dealer to get the VSV screw out of bracket. There was nothing hard about the installition. Directions are good and tools needed are minimal. I love that psssssh sound!

so far no check engine light here. I hope it stays that way. I am wondering if maybe you guys have a leak somewhere or maybe the MAF sensor got dirty or bumped a little too hard, still I'd check your clamps and hoses.

That VSV screw is a PITA! A tip for that kind of thing - get a rachet with a 1/4" socket and put a screwdriver tip in the socket. I was able to get the screw out pretty easy that way and holding the bracket with pliers.

Yea, I had to take that VSV screw to the dealer to take it off. All my hoses and clamps are on good I've checked them many times. Wondering if anybody with a dealer installed CAI is having same problems as we are?

Re: Running little "lean" after trd cai??

I had my CAI installed for over 15,000 miles an had no problems. The only other engine mods I had were, bypassed coolant throttle body, and TRD exhaust. Also over oiling should not cause it any problems. Has to be something else.

j_yota, I took off the CAI before I had the S/C installed. I was going to put it back on, but it is an Injen, so the bend will not let the CAI fit. Also after reading that you lose some low end and gain at the high end, I decided for my driving habits, I preferred the low end grunt. The car is so light, that as you probably know already, at higher speeds, especially around 90 mph, the car buries the needle easily when you punch it.

I'm lucky other than my ECU frying under warranty, that any problems I had, had a rememdy that was fixed.

And about the CEL coming on, on some of these rollas, the CEL on my MR2 always came on, but it drove fairly normal and I never got it fixed.

    TRD CAI Update

After a week of having my TRD CAI in the check engine light came on. I inspected all the connections and they seemed fine. I unhooked the negative battery cable and hasn't come back yet and that was 5 days ago. I hope it never comes back on again!
