    Remote mounted turbo system???

Check it out - pretty interesting setup for a turbo system from Squires Turbo Systems. A rear mounted turbo (in place of muffler) and no intercooler needed (but I bet those charge pipes are fun to run the length of the car). Actually appears to be legit - SEMA, mag articles, etc. Kind of wild.

Hmmmm. I think its pretty cool but I am skeptical. First off the turbo in there demo is near the end of the exhaust run so you loose a lot of that exhaust velocity as the air cools down which is going to affect your spool time and they claim it does not. Also the ammount of IC pipe you have to run seems a little on the high side and there is no intercooler but I'm sure the turbo is still going to get hot enough where you would want one for serious gains. Also it looks like the air filter just straps right onto the turbo near your rear axel. I don't want dirt and water getting kicked up from the road surface all over my turbo and air intake :) The idea is kind of neat but I think I would still take a conventional turbo over this any day.

yea I saw that on tv when they were doing a program about the sema show. The engineer seems to know what he's talking about but I am still skeptical.. I would like to talk to the guy who designed the thing.. I would think there be ton's of pressure drop and some trouble with ground clearence when running the charge pipes and placing the turbo.

it really doesnt make any sense. all the money u would use in reducing the temps of the turbo you would lose in the slow spooling of the turbo. honestly i think you would be much better off using a custom system. buy doc's kit when its ready. the turbo should withstand the heat of the exhaust gas. so i dunno why you would buy this kit

^^^ yes, this is true..... and not only that, but the efficiency of the turbo really deals with the fact that the exhaust pressure is higher where the exhaust gasses are hotter (which is why from factory all turbo setups.... and most turbo setups) actually are within a foot of piping or so (or less.... some have less than 6" off each cylinder).....

if you take a look at their site... mostly its trucks that have it done.... ones with high low end torque... cuz the length of the pipin will give it quite a bit of lag...

one of the guys that owns a matrix got it done... a while back... i dont know how its workin... havent kept up with it...

I wrote a long post some time ago about all the bad points of this system. I'm not sure if it was on this forum or not...

Now that I've read about it a little more (from people's personal experience), I might give it a try someday just to have the firsthand knowledge.

There's an article about them playing around in an Integra R, w/ the rear mounted turbo. They talk about how there's an immediated response, w/ little to no lag, it pulls all the way to redline.

yes.... but it would be more efficient were the turbo closer

    also, 400whp in a camaro isn't tough......

This is very true...with the products that SLP makes for F-body's, 400 horsepower is quite low for an 8-cyl F-body.

There is one running around here pushing around 630 horse to the wheels...an old friend of mine had a Trans-Am tuned by SLP and the previuos owner...if you add the 50 shot in the trunk, he's pretty close to 700.
