    Relocating the battery

    Hey guys,

I have a 97 Rolla and was wondering if it would be possible to relocate the battery to where the window washer fluid tank is at so that I can have a custom CAI made. If it is possible, which it looks like it could be, what steps should be taken in the relocation of it. Step by step instructions would be awesome if possible. Thanks to anyone that can help me out.

i would think your can extend the wires and run them in a safe area, i have not done a battery relocation personally but i think as long as you have your correct grounds and wires safely placed then it will work

actually, if you look closely at the engine bay, where the hell are you gonna locate the battery?

youd have to find a place for the reservoir- perhaps the old batteries location! but youde be shootin yourself in the foot- you look like your in a bit of pickel! you know waht i did? i just turned the battery on an angle.. why go through all the hassle?

He could just take the windsheild washer resivior out but thats probably not a good idea. I think if your willing to go through the trouble of relocating the battery for more engine space you should just put it in the trunk.

Thats a good idea d_samurai, did you relocate your coolant overflow tank? Where did you put it if you did?

heh...sometimes i wonder myself, i got wet and wild and sprayed some high temp header wrap coating over everywehre- including my body... (wait, did i just say that?)

93rolladx, coolant resevoir is still in place- the battery will just be pushing a little against it- takes a little fiddling to make it squeeze in w/ the battery and alll- the key? get a small battery-

Moving the battery to the trunk is probably the best thing to do.. Or get the plastic sheath to protect the cables.. and wrap the whole thing in tape...

Just moved mine on a 99 Corolla to the trunk last night. One piece of advice.. get a flexible wire.. I got a 4 gauge multi-strand at Home depot for 49 cents a foot. Gosh it can't bend. And the biggest issue was getting it through the firewall.

    But it's done. whew..

thing i don't like about vamps way.... is that you essentially either keep the factory fuses that hang off of the battery, or you cut them out and end up only having the one fuse that leads to the distribution block... which is even worse since alternator, starter, engine harness, and body harness all need different fuse sizes

use a fused distribution block, and use the same or very similar figures as what the car has.... found out with my mr2 if you use a fuse with much lower than 80A on the starter and the main fuse at the battery end then you'll blow fuses like crazy trying to start up..... if you're using an inline fuse, Monster makes an 80A inline glass fuse
