red clock on 01-02 corolla S

This mod took me all of 30 minutes to complete. You end up with a red-orange clock that is the same color as the backlight in the S gauges.
Required: clock, red piece of plastic from filing folder lables
    Total Price: $1
    time: 30 minutes
    1. Remove upper console using the 2 slots on the bottom with a screwdriver.
    2. Remove clock using the 2 big tabs on the sides of the clock (ignore the 4 other tabs)
    3. remove the 2 small screws on back of the clock
    4. remove the 4 side tabs and release the plastic lens piece.
(the 2 buttons will fall out at this point)
    5. cut the file folder label to fit in the front lens plastic piece.. my piece has a seam right in the center of where the clock screen sits but it doesn't matter because the outer plastic lens is tinted enough to hide the seam.
5b. put the buttons in the plastic lens piece and reassemble (upside down so the buttons stay aligned)
    6. close it back up, put the screws back in.
    7. reinstall in car (no tools needed)
    8. crack open a cold one and enjoy all the time you just saved.

I wish I thought of the file folder lable, I brought a foot of translucent blue acrylic plastic from the plastic store and only used about a square inch. =P

Brilliant! I want to do the same mod and later upgrade my head unit. Anyone know of other brands (other than Sony) that has the "reddish" backlight/display?

I don't see a need for ABS really. It's not worth it to convert. Just get it on your next car. :)
