    rear drive 1zz-fe?

    Hey-

I have a complete 1zz-fe engine and I am wanting to put it in a 1989 Mustang.
What is a rear drive trans that will bolt up and what can i find it on?
I will go with auto or manual and would like it to handle about 300 horses.

Also I have the complete engine harness, but I need an ecu if anyone is selling one.

    Engine is a 2005 with vvt-i.

    Thanks, TY

Most likley nothing will bolt right up, the 1zz is a trans axle only motor, FF or RR only motor.

    Good luck with 300hp 1ZZ-FE!!
as for the rear drive trans, maybe you can try MR-S.

There are a few guys in Australia that took a 1ZZ-FE and put it into a Caterham Superlight chassis - FR layout. Had to take the engine and turn it longitudinally and fitted a modified 4AGE transmission from a RWD Levin platform (ie, AE86). Not a trivial project - but made easier since the Caterham has a tube framed chassis, they could place things relatively easily and add bracing where it was necessary. Be a major PITA to do it with a completed chassis like that unibody Fox platform for the 89 Mustang.

So it is entirely possible to do though not 100% sure if would be the best choice - even if you have a free engine. Other platforms, like Nissan's own SR20DE and SR20DET engine and transmission choices are a better bet - shown to produce prodigious amount of power and have a strong aftermarket support and already in the FR platform layout.

    OK-
Well I will probably just look for a cheap 98 or newer corolla that needs a motor. Anyone got one? I was just gonne use what i have, but i figured that a rwd trans would be a long shot.
The plan is to have a cheap lightweight car and see how the engine likes a 100-150 shot!!

    I think www.monkeywrenchracing.com has like a 430+hp 1ZZ-FE in the MR2.

    putting a 1zz-fe in a mustang is like putting a b16 in a camaro.

that is really ignorant considering the mustang i have weighs less than 2400 lbs, and a camaro is a whale in comparison. plus i have done many engine swaps and added turbo's to n/a engines and i am a true believer in 4-banger power.

also to the guy who made the remark about discracing japanese engineering, it is really a diss to ford and a compliment to japan you idiot!!

The blasphemy would be me coming on here and asking how to put a ford 302 in a new avalon.

Seriously if you don't have a true answer for my question then just don't waste time posting, i am not scared of doing this and have thought all about how stupid or weird it may be, but it would be hella cool and i could do it a$$ cheap if there really is a trans that works with rear drive. I was hoping this site actually had some smart people and not just closed minded geeks who know nothing about cars.

why you want to put a 1zzfe engine?just wondering because i would of thought that the mustang 5.0 has more potiental, than 1.8 engine especially on a heavier body.anways good luck and keep us updated on your project.

I guess i will clear the air.
I already have a 1991 turbocharged 5.0 mustang notch, and the '89 is a 4cyl car with a bad motor and trans, i have taken all the extra weight out and have installed a posi 8.8 rear, and i have a free 05 1zz motor with 500 miles on it and thought it would be cool and different to put a 1zz in it with a lot of nitrous since i am also a toyota enthusiast. I mean everyone and their dog has a v8 mustang and i have had a few turbo 2.3 mustangs which are more rare, but a toyota powered mustang would be cool and i think i could easily get it into the 13's cheap with the 1zz motor if there was a FR trans that would work.
Call it dumb, but you gotta admit it would be cool as hell.

stock is 10:1 compression and monkeywrenchracing sells 11:1 pistons or 8.8:1 pistons for boost/nitrous. i will probably just leave it stock since it was free but if i dont find a trans then i will prolly just sell the engine and go with the ford 2.3turbo since it bolts right in.

How about you drop a 3S-GTE or 2JZ-GTE in it? It's way much better than 1ZZ-FE. :D
