well, it's going somewhere....... if you have big plumes of smoke behind you, then you're burning it... if there are puddles on the ground below the car, you're leaking it.... and if neither of those are true, then it's probably in your radiator.....

check your radiator fluid for oil contamination or check your oil for water contamintion. if you can find that oil...you prolly have a blown head gasket.

well, not necessarily burning it...... there could be a tracer between the coolant and oil passages and not getting into the combustion chamber (which i'm almost positive is what happened on my 87 mr2).... you would then be losing coolant probably through the overflow tank....

however, if you're not 100% on the problem.... take it to a mechanic... a rod knock is not something to mess around with or attempt to fix unless you know the problem

hmmm what year is your rolla??

    ... here's 2 ways I burn/lose oil:

    1) some leakage due to the filter only setup on that one valve cover vent.
    2) valve seals are a lil worn in my ride, lol (good thing im working on that new head)

my main issue right now is my valve seals - mother fuckers ... not a huge issue but it makes me actually check my oil every week... lol (burn rate is about 1qt every couple-three months or so right now)

    Stupid question ahead:

What does a knock exactly sound like?

My Corolla is making a sound at higher RPM's (not all the time, but most the time unless I let off the pedal) that sounds like metal rattling in the engine bay. I have no idea if it's just a heat shield rattling or if after 4 months of having this car it's already shitting out on me.

oh.. no.... i think your short block got damaged (knocking sound).... it happend on my car too (because of the supercharger).. i had to send my car back to toyota and have them rebuild my engine and replace the short block.. good thing TRD covers it.. or else i will have to pay over $2000 to fix it..

    good luck to you...

mine had that problem but mine was burnning the oil. My car was running rich so it lean the oil out and burnt it and maybe to high rpms but that was why I had a f rod to knock

true.... my old 98 corolla has 110,000 miles on there.. if is not because i totalled it, it should have no problem reaching 200,000 miles

anyways.. good luck with your car.. i think the best thing you can do right now is take it back to Toyota and have them take a good at it before it get worse...

when i blew my engine, i had a rattling of metal type noise in the engine, kind of like a 'chattering' of metal above 3k rpm, and luckily it was under warranty, but it cost over 3500 to fix, for toyota. i would say if you hear a rattling of metal like that you are screwed. sorry.

Only $2000 huh? Let me go take a shit and pull it out of the toilet after I'm done.

I've made 4 payments on this p.o.s. I still owe 7 grand on the fuckin thing. If this engine dies I'm going up to the dealership and beating the shit out of the s.o.b. who sold it to me and will not buy another Toyota again. At 71,000 miles the engine should NOT be fucked.

    :End rant:

if it's a 98+ it may have a problem..... toyota started to have sludging problems (and yes, the engines did blow every now and then). It also depends on how the previous owner (and you) treated the car for routine maintenance and how it was driven

I agree, especially a Toyota, 71 000miles is nothing and the engine should still be running really strong, definitely bring it back and get it looked at... do you have any drivetrain warranty on it?

I have no waranty. Stupid ass used car dealerships. I'm going to be dropping the oil pan Friday and checking if it's the rod or main bearings and hoy many I need. If it's the rod bearings, I'm going to slap new ones in (yes, I know this only buys time) as well as replacing the oil pump. If it's the main bearings I'll take the hit on my credit and tell the bastards to come pick up the car as I will not pay any more for it. I don't have the time, money, or extra means of transportation to have it rebuilt. I have owned 3 80's MR2's that were dreams come true, and other than the xA or xB I seriously don't think I'd even consider buying another Toyota. How many cars have to have problems before they consider a TSB or recall on parts? I know the oil pressure seding unit does send any message until it's literally too late. That's just rediculous.
