RCA Input to Stock Head Unit

I have an Apple iPod that I use to store all my tunes. Sad to say, the current crop of FM transmitter devices is not very good at providing a clean signal to the stereo. There is a significant amount of interference from other radio stations all the time. Since I have the CD-only unit, I can't hook up a tape deck. I had been planning to do my entire audio/video down the line, but the system(s) i'm putting in are going to total over $8,000. For now, I just want a stop-gap measure. So I'm wondering if it's possible to get an RCA INPUT to the stock head unit. I would be willing to drill holes wherever necessary, but with an RCA input, then I can hook up my iPod directly. Anyone?

you can get an aftermarket cd/mp3 player for not all that much nowadays.. Many of them have inputs that you could use to hook external devices to.. the stock unit doesnt have any inputs that i am aware of.. at least i didnt see any when i took it out.. you can do much better for not that much money if you get an aftermarket cd player.. and all you need to do is buy a face kit and wiring harness to install it, which is an extra 15 dollars but its all pretty easy to install.. I did mine in about 2 hours.. and it was the first deck i've ever installed.. if you have any experience and all the right tools, you could do it in like 30 minutes probably.

Have you heard of an item called a Hi Lo Converter sometimes known as Hi Lo Adaptor?

This item gives you RCA connection to a stock head unit. You connect this item to your speak wires and I have got 4 of them left. I have sold these to people locally (Australia) who like to connect an amplifier to their stock head unit.

    1. You'd need someone to really look at the stock head unit to see if its possible to do this. There isn't a problem finding something that goes from 1/8" stereo plug to whatever... but there could be problems trying to find how to integrate it into a CD changer input (if there even is one). Assuming the system you plan on getting doesn't have a no-internal-amp head unit, and if you've got the money, go ahead and get the head unit. That would make you life a LOT easier, plus it might be just about as expensive to have someone install the proper input on the stock unit.

    2. $8k??? What are you spending it on? I hope its a 5.1 system with a lot of monitors and fibreglass work. If not, you're getting ripped off. I'm putting together a system that will cost about half that much and has some top of the line products, along with some pro audio gear integrated for car use. Keep in mind that I will also be doing all installation and its a stereo setup... not 4 or 5.1 channel.

hehehe i have the answers to your problem since I have been doing a lot of research on this issue.. . the above mentioned technique with the hi-lo converter would not work becasue thats for output.. you hook ur speaker wires to the hi lo converter and it converts it to a RCA connection which lets you hook it up to an AMP. What you need is INPUT.. THe reason I dont want to get a aftermarket cd deck is cuz i think the single din with the dash kit looks ugly or weird.. just doesnt quite fit right. SO i have my ipod/ PDA / navigation system hooked up thru this thingy that makes it think its a cd stack changer.. I have a tape deck on my cd player but hte sound quality is still not that good .. Anyways sorry for hte long post here is your solution heh

it connects to the plug in the back of your stock cd deck.. its for a cd changer ... the current stock configuration has nothing going in it. .jsut plug it in and hit the cd button ur cd deck and it changes it .. kinda like a AUX in.. anyways hope this helps! :) GOOD LUCK
