i had the same problem two weeks ago, it only happened when i got around 3000 rpm. I blew a rod and my engine is gone. The toyota dealership is doing a full engine rebuild. Its probably gonna cost upwards of 2000 dolars. But its covered under warrranty. I hope you have a warranty or your gonna be eating poo for dinner. Sorry ot break the news to you but you better get it checked out now. start saving your pennies.

    Rattling noise with acceleration

I got some water in my spark plug area a lil while back due to my hood scoop and i had aftermarket apc wires.. ((yeah yeah i know apc is shit)) anyway, my check engine light came on and my engine sounded like it was choking, i got it home, pulled the wires and took an air compressor to blow the water out, i got it all out, then i pulled the spark plugs and replaced those...changed the oil and filter...i turned my car on and it runs perfectly...but there is now a noise when i accelerate, like a rattling noise. My check engine light came on the other day but then when i went to use my new obd2 reader my battery wasnt connected enough and it reset the ecu....Did you have a rattling noise when you accelerate before u threw the rod? Its idle isnt perfect but its not shitty or anything...Any advice on what it could be? Im getting a mechanic to look at it this weekend...Do you guys think the block is the problem?? Think it needs to be completely replaced or what? Anyone have this problem? Any advice would be helpful. Oh my car has been sitting in my garage now for a week or so cuz i dont wanna chance tearing it up further before i know, especially on these hot days.

It's only when accelrating? Hmm, not sure about that. In a possibly related way, I had an issue where my car rattled when stopped. I latter found out a lost bolt had gotten wedged betweent he transmission and engine bay, causing it to transfer the vibrations of the engine to the car. Did you lose any nuts or bolts recently when working on your car? If so, check to make sure they're not lodged somewhere in the engine bay.

Yeah it happens only when it accelerate..It might be a lodged bolt but my gas mileage hasnt been all that great lately...but it has been hot so im sure other people have had this issue too. Im just worried water got into my block and has rusted my internals in any way...u know? The idle isnt perfect but its not really rough either. The other day i was at montgomery mall and i had slowed down almost to a stop at a stop sign and when i went to accelerate to turn the car stalled..but hasnt done it lately. Like I said i havent been driving it for more then a week now because im scared i'll do even more damage. the check engine light is what spooked me. Gabe is having me drive the car to his mechanic at some point this weekend or next week after work.

Do you think that water has some how made it into your intake. If water gets in the engine bay that is never a good thing. That would be my guess.

u sure its not a ping instead of a rattle cause I have a ping noise when I accelerate but only then. if you keep hearing the rattling i advise get it checked out before something big happens..and unfortunately repairs on our model cars are a bit on the "bend over with no lube" expensive. Anyhow good luck on the car.

You should take it to get it checked out...Sounds serious and nothing that you will be able to pin-point yourself.

i used to have lots a pinging going uphill, or whenever the pedal was pressed to the floor-the trick (at least in my case) =get the fuel injectors cleaned and that fixed EVERYTHING-not too mention gave me a very decent boost in performance-although im almost positive this is a different situation..

It actually came out to costing 3000, i just got it back today, 2000 was just a rough estimate.

i recently threw a rod because i sucked in water through my intake.

i also recently just finished putting a new engine with the help of my friends. 450 for a 12k engine. 60 for fluids and grease and crap. 150 for clutch kit, 30 for a damn nicely refinished flywheel. but all this was worth hte learning experience.

when water got in the engine, it just so happened that i was dumb and kept cranking when the c ar stopped, in turn, bending and weakening the rod, and it eventually gave out and caused some awesome damage.

i lost good gas mileage, and was burning oil, and obviously there was blow by.

right before the rod blew there was no sound, i just put it in gear and BAM metal explosion with oil spurtations. careful.

did you open the hood and pull the throttle cable to hear it? or you just heard it when you accelerrating in your car?

try open the hood and pull the throttle cable, and see wehre is the sound come from~ at least check is it from the engine or other related componet~

it's even better if you have a tool that can acutally heard the sound from the engine at certain spot~ i'm not srue the name of the tool, and it's like the thing that doctor uses to listen your heart~ it's mainly use for check the bearing, but you can try it if you have acceess that tool~

    hope that helps :)

Sound like the same shit I´ve. Rattling noise inside the air intake. This plastic thing you can see on the picture of the forum. right beneath the oil pin.

I´ve this issue since 20.000 and forgot to do this onto gurantee. They told me its the air intake. But its an guess to me.I wish I could just put it out but toyota is somewhat hard to deal with because of the spare parts you need.

I guess there is some plastic between the engine the air intake. Kinda rubber or something I dont know.

Guess I´ll take my last money and get a set of tools for this task.

I´ve a little fear of things getting into the cylinder and damageing it.
