    I have an 03 Corolla S

    Do you guys know what the hell is that mesh like plastic in the stock filter box before the air goes to the mass air flow sensor?
    what does it do?,how to take it off?,and what will happen if i take it off?

    I would highly recommend NOT removing it. I slides down into the groove and has a little clip in the center of the exposed side.

    It serves the VERY important purpose of reducing turbulence and directing the airflow at the MAF sensor into a straight stream so that it gets an accurate reading. It's extremely important for correct air/fuel ratio calculation. ANY power you get from the 0.1% extra airflow you might gain by removing it would be quickly fizzled out by having your air/fuel mixture all whacked out. It's not restrictive and doesn't hurt airflow so removing it is actually hurting performance, fuel mileage, general engine health, etc.
