    Porting the sub box

Just wondering, could i just drill holes into my sub box to make it ported? Or does it have to be ported somewhere specific?

Well you should put them in certain positions and make sure you know what your doing, im sure you could find some instructions on the internet. Also its probably better off doing it from scratch making a box because if you do it to a normal box that wasnt designed for it you might have problems. But if you want to do it with a box you dont care about go for it.

Careful calculation need to be done regarding port size and port length. Typically PVC pipe is used and cut to the reuired length. The ports are tuned to a frequency dependent on your particular sub as well as the size of the box. Just drilling holes will cause major problems.

if you just put a whole in a box you will have major port noise usually and an abnormally high tuned box, which might make it seem louder, at least on higher bass notes, but the soundquality will be horrible. My friend used to have a cerwin vega stroker in a box that seemed like it just had a whole in it.. it was loud but sounded really shitty.. had a lot of port noise

    Re: Porting the sub box

You wouldn't have a ported box there. You system would perform like a sealed enclosure with a big hole in it.
A new enclosure will need to be built to manufacturer's specs.

haha, yea i was just curious i wasnt gonna actually do it. My bass sounds horrible anyways with the bass rattle from the outside and the rearview mirror. I dont wanna spend anymore money on it, being a college student and all. The bass from the inside isnt that bad, so im happy

If you want to stop rattling from the outside, you need to put some sound deadening material on it.

And ported boxes sound like shit for sound quality. They're pretty much only for SPL competition IMO
