Ported 1ZZ Header: Pics and Dyno!

this was posted on Matrix Owners:

"Just to let you guys know, porting a 1ZZ header DOES gain a signifcant amount of power, just like porting a 2ZZ header. Check out this GT header I ported recently:

And the before and after dyno (on an auto Celica GT:(

(the peak numbers are off since the dyno was done in two gears, and the peak numbers show the power between shifts)

More info can be found here:

If anyone needs a header ported, check out this thread:
    http://www.matrixowners.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37929

I'll be able to port one 1ZZ header at a time, but I'm still waiting for the 2ZZ headers (regular AND EGR ) to come in."

I'll try to do my when I have $$$ and time this summer!
But that will weaken the structure of the header right?

doesn't look like it.. the grinding isn't on the welds, just on the extra casting metal..

The guy who did this will be getting a manual tranny swap soon, and then he'll dyno again.

How much do people spend on CAIs, that give maybe 3-4 hp?

you can port it yourself. i remember a guy on 2003corolla.org that did it with a dremel. he said he really felt a gain in performance

I think I'll get into this.

Okay, who wants a ported 1ZZ header for '98 - '02s... I've got one in stock right now... er... I will next week!

If you read the newcelica.org thread, the cost is rather cheap compared to a CAI. There's a $100 refundable core fee (you get it back when you get your header back, or something...but you do get it back), and I think about $60 for the actual porting job, and a little extra for shipping. Compared to the cost and gains of other 1ZZ headers, this looks like the way to go for now.

Yes, it's so cheap, just $60 + shipping. So maybe $150 in total max I guess.
$150 for 5whp+5wtq is good. Better than getting a CAI imo.

Thats great news. I would definatly do this myself. It doesn't take much to grind metal.
